The fields behind my house ... walked to the shop ... grabbed a few snaps ... happy Paul!

A late first upload today as well, since I've spent much time photographing all the interesting birds in my neighbourhood today too (and finding a brand new species for me and our municipality!) I will show that one tomorrow.
But here is one from the archive:
It was lovely to suddenly be surrounded by a big elephant family, in an open jeep in South Africa - listening to them and studying them for a long time.
My album of photos from Africa here.

What I think to be a controlled burn next a supper market parking lot. However it burned right up to the cars that were parked in the lot.
One of my last shots of the evening from last night, taken around 20 minutes after sunset.
Low wide angle shot to avoid the debris that the tide had left on the beach, Just managed to catch some reflection in the wet sand.

Late in the day on a cool Saturday, November 25, 2023, a southbound coal train is seen descending the Rich Mountain grade at Eagleton, AR from an overlook on the Talimena National Scenic Byway.
One of eight sanderlings (Calidris alba) that I photographed on our beach one evening in August.

What it says on the tin! Excting to see some of our winter visitors arriving here in South Woodham Ferrers, especially the Brent Geese who arrived this week! Hopefully I'll get chance to get some pics of them soon! P.S. I love the nobbly knees on the Godwits!

I titled this photo "Evening walk", but actually it's only afternoon. During winter in Sweden, the sun sets pretty early in the day. This day I was actually a bit nervous that it would go down too fast, so that I wouldn't find my way back. The snow was pretty deep and I wasn't really in the mood for wandering around in the snow in the dark.
Photo was taken at Commonwealth park, used 1 off camera flash and 1 umbrella placed at front left of the model.
A red tailed hawk sits on an old tree on the outskirts of Bellingham, Washington, watching the field below for mice and snakes scurrying around in the last light of the day.
I posted a similar shot once before that wasn't very good. This time the moon was out, there was an orange glow from the setting sun and the hawk was more active. Also, the hawk let me get closer before he flew away.
Update: for a while today, this shot was sitting in the #6 spot for interestingness for Feb. 10, 2006. It has since bounced around between #8 and #12. That's the highest any of my pics have ranked so far. (Yeah, I know... interestingness changes constantly and isn't the be-all end-all, but it's still fun to see one of my own go that high on the list.)
-Added to the Cream of the Crop pool as most "favorited."
A ferry boat docks at twilight, basking in the warm glow of the setting sun with majestic mountains standing guard in the distance.
