Tranquility was to be achieved not by strenuously chasing after enjoyable experiences, but by cultivating a kind of calm indifference towards one's circumstances.

Here's wishing you (all of my American Flickr friends) safe travels and an enjoyable American Thanksgiving celebration with your family and friends.

Spent an Enjoyable Morning in 2017 with a pair of Royal Terns… Life is Good.

Royal tern usually feed on small fish such as anchovies, weakfish, and croakers. Fish are their main source of food but they also eat insects, shrimp, and crabs.

When feeding on small crabs the royal tern does not use its normal plunge-dive technique, but instead uses short shallow dives so that they are concealed from their prey. The royal tern also uses this technique when hunting flying fish.

The royal tern nests on island beaches or isolated beaches with limited predators. It lays one or two eggs, usually in a scrape, an area on the ground where a tern has made a small hole to lay its eggs.

In some cases, tern eggs are laid directly on the ground, not in a scrape. The eggs incubate from 25 to 30 days; after the eggs hatch the chicks remain in the scrape for about a week. About two weeks after hatching the chicks

Had an enjoyable morning watching this cutie.

The House Finch

House Finches, particularly males, can look very different from one to another. This is largely due to differences in their diet rather than regional differences. Even though all of eastern North America’s House Finches are descended from the same few birds released on Long Island (meaning they’re much more closely related to each other than they are to birds across the West), there aren’t any strong differences in size, shape, or color between the two regions.

A highly social bird, the House Finch is rarely seen alone outside of the breeding season and may form flocks as large as several hundred birds.

House Finches feed mainly on the ground or at feeders or fruiting trees. At rest, they commonly perch on the highest point available in a tree, and flocks often perch on power lines.

During courtship, males sometimes feed females in a display that begins with the female gently pecking at his bill and fluttering her wings. The male simulates regurgitating food to the female several times before actually feeding her.

House Finches eat almost exclusively plant materials, including seeds, buds and fruits. Wild foods include wild mustard seeds, knotweed, thistle, mulberry, poison oak, cactus, and many other species. In orchards, House Finches eat cherries, apricots, peaches, pears, plums, strawberries, blackberries, and figs.

This is such a small member of the Tanager family. Can't think where it gets its name from.

For those of you that are interested in details. My visit to Costa Rica in March which lasted 17 days produced a huge amount of wildlife of which I managed to photograph 159 different species. Many were too far to photograph and some of the 159 species photographed only resulted in record shots but it was certainly an enjoyable trip.

For an enjoyable view, find a Reddish Egret and watch it for awhile. It will perform like few other birds, running around, stop-starting, raising its wings like an umbrella shading the water, crouching and stretching...all to "scare up" some fish for a snack.

I have seen other egrets mimic this behavior occasionally.

This is another view of beautiful Bow Lake, with terrific colour, is easily seen from the Icefields Parkway, in Alberta. This image is taken from the shore at Num Ti Jah Lodge. It is a very nice walk around this property, and the views are terrific. The water in the lake is really clear and very peaceful. It was glorious, very peaceful and thoroughly enjoyable.

Thanks for your visits and comments. As always, appreciated very much!

This Osprey made for an enjoyable shoot this morning.

Came home and put on some Bob Seger. “Against the Wind” ... I'm older now but still runnin against the wind :)

The osprey (also called sea hawk, river hawk, and fish hawk) is a fish-eating bird of prey. It is a large raptor, reaching more than 60 cm (24 in) in length and 180 cm (71 in) across the wings. It is brown on the upper-parts and predominantly greyish on the head and underparts.

The osprey tolerates a wide variety of habitats, nesting in any location near a body of water providing an adequate food supply. It is found on all continents except Antarctica.

Wishing you all a wonderful and enjoyable weekend! :-)

We had a enjoyable visit to the the RHS garden at Harlow Carr near Harrogate last week . It was a bright crisp day with just a little snow on the ground . The snow certainly helped these bright Cornus alba 'Sibirica' shrubs to look their best

I checked out a park nearby that is fairly wild. There is trails that pass a thin stream. Quite lovely really. But what was awesome is to get close to this group of turkeys? and see them wandering oblivious to everything around them. They were adorable and very amusing. My sight is poor and I struggled clicking and seeing. Then with movement I finally got it there was two not one ;) Most enjoyable too was no humans around just birds and sounds of nature in Hayward regional shorelines.

Nature awaits him with her infinite variety; the discovery of distant lands, or opportunities no less Important or desired for, which may be just around the corner. Enjoyable walks await him, stimulating journeys; the priceless satisfaction whatever may be the outcomes of his photography, of a day well spent.

I had an enjoyable 6 weeks travel in the North of the Netherlands where the main goal was to visit places with nice bird life. I am still working on my pictures (this time only 2000 shots).

This nice shot was taken in a bird observation hut where this little wren was having its nest (next to some barn swallows who also took residence here).

I stayed for at least one hour to see him/her working continuously and bringing lots of food, that seemed to be abundant. It was fun to watch, and to see this little wren overcoming its fear for me, every time he/she entered the hut. (In a week from now I will be off again, this time the south of Nl).

....... Have a Safe Enjoyable Weekend ....

* A second shot from Spurn Point this time looking inland. Spurn is well known as somewhere to see fantastic sunsets . However this evening it was not that spectacular but still rather enjoyable to see . This was taken looking across the Humber estuary towards the East Yorkshire “ mainland “ . There is not a lot of water in the shot just some very wet mudbanks .

If you are interested in the area there is a description of Spurn Point in the text of my previous post

An enjoyable walk through the Watermeads Nature Reserve alongside the river Wandle. The Watermeads or “water meadows” were amongst first properties acquired by the National Trust. Following extensive rehabilitation programme to reintroduce water meadows to support natural habitat the reserve has been reopened recently for the public. It is one of many little green gems in the middle of the big city. I was attracted by the clarity of the fast-flowing river when a lonely Canada goose (Branta canadensis) wondered into the frame. Have an enjoyable day everyone and keep safe.

I have done a little texture work in the past, but have recently renewed my interest in them because of some inspiring work I have seen from Skyshaper, Nick, Vanessa and many others here on flickr.

Experimentation with textures sure can be time consuming, but also fun and enjoyable.

Thanks to Skyshaper for your tips...This one is for you mate.

Had an enjoyable evening at South Gare on Teesmouth near Redcar, Teesside at the weekend. Treat to dramatic skys, double rainbows, glorious light and sunset over the quaint Paddy's Hole. Not bad for an evening at a local spot for me.

Summer evenings at Smith Rock can often produce idyllic images like this reflection in the calm curve of Crooked River.

Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend! Thank you for visiting!

An enjoyable hour or so spent at South Stack with my dad. Arrived just in time for the moody sunset. So windy though! Thanks very much for viewing.

Driving along icefields parkway was an enjoyable experience, no matter it was sunshine, or cloudy. Stretching 232km (144mi.) through the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site, icefields Parkway is a must do when visiting Banff and Jasper, to experience the magnificence of such a powerful force of nature. Blue-green lakes, massive glaciers, and snowcapped Rocky Mountains peaks slow the pace on the two-lane ride. There will be a lot of unplanned breaks to check out the stunning landscapes. The photo was taken along one stop of the icefield parkway, the colorful late fall colors on the hills of the mountains and mountains peaks in front of you, you cannot move forward…

I spent an enjoyable morning in some local Oak woodland on Sunday, surrounded by birdsong. I sat still against a mossy rock for an hour or so and waited to see what birds came close. Eventually I got a reasonably clear sight of this male Pied Flycatcher through a tangle of branches. This is a reasonably big crop.

While it's enjoyable to see these orioles feeding on the oranges, here I've chosen an image that shows the bird in a more natural setting.

The oriole perches in the just-leafing-out cherry tree as it determines if it's safe to fly down to the beckoning oranges.

Enlarge for a more immersive view...

I will probably post one more Baltimore oriole image tomorrow, but it will have a surprise twist to it :) Any guesses as to what that might be???

March came in like a lamb, or maybe I should say mourning dove, today here in Winneshiek County. Even though we still have lots of snow on the ground, it even felt spring-like for an enjoyable change with a temperature finally topping 40 F for the first time in ages. With luck, more migrant birds from down south will begin arriving in the next week or so.

Very enjoyable to photograph a Mallard like this. They don't care that I'm crawling around with a camera.....

A rising moon appears on the edge of the mountains. Thanks for looking and have an enjoyable Friday and weekend.

I spent an enjoyable evening in Leeds with a great group of people from a facebook photography group I'm a member of. We stayed around the area next to the canal side behind Bridgwater Place and took some photos. Here are some of mine.

I wish I'd known you could go up to the Skylounge in the Hilton building next to us; one of the things I really want to do is take a shot of Leeds (or any city) from a high vantage point, especially after dark!

Hope you all saw in the New Year enjoyably . I like January 1st, spring is now ahead of us rather than behind. It's time to get this years seed and plant catalogues out and beginning ordering . While I don’t go in for resolutions though I do have a few wishes for 2021 none of them very profound.

It will be good to be able to pop into a pub and have a pint . I am desperate to see some live music. It would be good to leave these islands and see somewhere abroad again . I would also love to reverse Brexit though that’s not going to happen. Whatever you wish for I hope it happens.

The photograph was shot at Castle Howard in the Spring the gardens filled with daffodils . This was our last outing before the first lockdown

Got a deeply enjoyable shot superquickly this time. The dark green makes all the difference against the sun (almost hugging the contours) - superb view.

Enjoyable day out to celebrate Red Squirrel day.

Many thanks for your comments and faves. Always appreciated.

Bark is similar in many ways to our own skin and is essential for a tree's survival. And a whole host of other species make use of this niche in the forest ...

We adopted Manolo in May 2003. He has had a pretty healthy life until maybe 5 years ago. Now he is completely deaf, totally blind, arthritic, and has dementia...and he is still as sweet and obedient as ever. We have an enjoyable life with him even to this day.

Enjoyable morning out around the coastline of the Wirral. Oli and Megs had asked me to get a few photos of them in action together. Much harder than it looks, especially as most of the time and despite their express instructions of wanting a shot with both of them in they seemed to spend as much time away from each other as it was possible.

I have better individual shots but this was the only one I managed with both of them in. Oli racing across the waves in the foreground and Megs catching what I believe the cool kids call "some air."

Yesterday afternoon it was enjoyable while waiting for the right moment of light. More and more deer came out of the forest. If you look closely, you can count 11.

We are back from a short but very enjoyable trip to France it was wonderful to be back across the Channel again . We spent two nights in Wimereux on the coast and a night inland at Arras . This trip was an amuse-bouche for a longer visit we have planned for later this year when hopefully we shall be in Languedoc in September

Wimereux is a small town but it has a lot of very attractive houses built in the Belle Epoch period. Because of the narrow street I could only show two from this terrace of houses I think there were eight in total all very distinctive

Enjoyable day on the Farne Islands, Northumberland.

It was an enjoyable day of playing with colors, sharing in the festival's kinship among others; friends, family and even strangers. An explosion of color that brought everyone together. Just for a few hours, no one cared about religion, race or even age. As long as you were moving, you got hit with beautiful light.

The two walked home, still feeling the adrenaline and playfulness from the last few hours of dancing, dodging more colorful mess and just smudging more powder over anyone. Seems like she was not done yet when she reached over and put more hand prints on any white part of his white fabric, if there was any left even.

He just shook his head and didn't make it easy before pulling her closer into a warm hug that she made full by rubbing herself over him like a cat just to get him more colorful than he already was.

After all, no celebration is complete without your favorite person.

P.S. Happy Holi, everyone! :D
