--it breaks down the 15 Overall Expectations of English into 7 Essential Learnings
--Round One and Two add to 70% and Round Three is 30%
--The teacher offers mini-lessons and feedback to students along the way
--there is always a negotiated third choice if the student doesn't like the two listed
--all choices have to be negotiated with the teacher before work begins: grade-appropriate learning goal, grade-appropriate success criteria, and grade-appropriate timeline with check-ins
