We were treated to a very intense Aurora just before Christmas. The lights could be seen from our town and even from Calgary. This is near Water Valley, Alberta.
yet another frozen waterfall which we encountered in Iceland. Each of them was very unique with its own unmistakable signature :)

While driving out of the Kaeng Krachan National Park I encountered a troupe of stump-tailed macaques alongside of the road. I quickly exited the vehicle and took this picture of the alpha male. Before I could reduce my focal length he had quickly slipped into the jungle.
Wikipedia: The stump-tailed macaque (Macaca arctoides), also called the bear macaque, is a species of macaque native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. In India, it occurs south of the Brahmaputra River, in the northeastern part of the country.
This Old World monkey travels quadrupedally, usually on the ground, as it is not very agile in trees. It is generally found in evergreen tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests, at different elevations depending on the amount of rainfall in the area.

Ziva and Giotto at the first encounter.
By now, Giotto is part of our family and Ziva (spayed) likes him very much :-)

I like these accidental encounters. You are driving your car through the mountains, the light changes from high standing sun to low standing sun in the evening. It becomes slightly hazy, the shadows become longer, the landscape more diffuse. And suddenly you encounter one subject after the other.

This image with colorful effects reminds me some scenes from the movie "Close encounter of third kind". In the center I can imagine the landing strip for spaceships... :)))
My dear Flickr friends,
Sorry for my absence these last weeks. I have been quite busy getting my own business (www.esthersfotografie.nl) of the ground.
This shot of the fox was an unexpected encounter. I was looking for foxes together with a colleague of mine. However we did not see them. We decided to look for other subjects to photograph and saw some grasshoppers. While we were taking photos of these beautiful small insects, I suddenly saw something moving at my leftside. As I looked up, I saw a fox at only one meter away. I softly said to my colleague not to be scared and I turned my camera immediately towards the fox which was apparantly very curious of what we were doing squatting in the long grass. And I was just thrilled to have my 50mm lens ready when needed.
The fox may have also been wondering why he was not the subject to be photographed. Anyway, the fox appeared very sudden, but also disappeared like winking.
Farming under the shadow of a National Monument. Devils Tower in Wyoming has been one of my favorite places to visit for years. Always reminds me of the Steven Spielberg 1977 movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Each jagged fight, an open door,
Close encounters of the best kind,
now born again, I died...once more.
Close encounters of the best kind,
are often uncontrolled.
Each jagged fight,is a Close encounter.
Now born again,died...once more !
A Chance Encounter..
Peaches.. The smell of peaches captured my attention..
It was unusual for such a crisp autumn day
Looking up from my usual coffee and paper morning routine to find its source..
I saw her.. she was young.. yet elegantly dressed with a sophisticated presence..
She was struggling with a huge great Dane.. which gave me a chuckle as he did not want to walk any further and he was clearly winning the argument.
She sat down and ordered ..I glanced back at my paper, but something about her demanded my attention..
A slight breeze blew by as she tucked a few strands of her hair behind her ears..
I grabbed my sketch book and tried to capture her in that moment..
I began to wonder.. let my mind drift and a story began to form.. surprising myself as many months had past without any.
Words.. began to flow it was difficult to keep up with..
I look up.. she had gone.. small sense of disappointment flashed across my mind.. but smiling knowing the story had just begun.

Wishing you a fantastic week-end! :-)
We were walking along a trail in The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Gardens, Port Augusta when we encounter this Wallaby standing very still, partly in the shade.
I just have enough time to snap before it quickly hopped off.
Wallabies are marsupials related to kangaroos.
There are about 30 species of wallaby.
The natural habitat of the wallaby varies by group, such as the brush, rock, swamp, forest and shrub wallabies.
The lifespan of wallabies varies by species, but ranges from about 7 to 18 years.
Wallabies are almost identical to kangaroos but smaller.
They range in size from the size of a rabbit to almost 2 meters (6.5 feet) from head to end of tail.
The soft, woolly fur can be gray, brown, red or almost black. The belly is lighter.
Wallabies are herbivores. They eat a variety of plants such as grasses, sedges and leaves.
Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves...it is always appreciated...
