I wanted to bring out her warrior spirit here. Looking out into the future fighting her challenges single handedly with an 8 year old. A very brave step especially in a South Asian societal context.
I had the pleasure of photographing, Zecora. She was a lovely client. I appreciate her look and her desire of expression.
The atmosphere and books in the Long Room are so special that it’s vital nothing should be lost.
The process of conservation and security of these books is tremendously important, so it is pertinent to find out about this process at the same time that one visits the place.

The term empowerment covers a vast landscape of meanings, interpretations, definitions and disciplines. Empowerment of women, also called gender empowerment, has become a significant topic of discussion in regards to development and economics.
This evenings outing in the Power & Light district of Kansas City ended up being quite intriguing. I've walked into some interesting situations in my time living this life, but I could not make this story up if I tried.
On this evening an acquaintance and I were doing some urban exploration, our destination being the grand old Hotel Phillips for a cocktail. Upon entering, what does she walk into but, a conference for "Influential Women of Kansas City 2012". Once I got my bearings I noticed the woman at the sign in desk giving out name tags was looking me over, not real sure as to who (or perhaps what) I was. Actually it all ended up being somewhat empowering, real women can read those of us portraying them like a book, and I managed to survive this little encounter pretty well I would like to think. As a devotee and admirer of beautiful, confident well dressed women, being in this place at this time was a true joy.
I only managed one not that interesting photo in the lovely old place, feeling it was best not to make too much of a spectacle out of myself, I'll post that somewhere down the road. We milled about the lobby for a time, but out of respect for the REAL influential women there, it was time to retreat to the lounge for a cosmo.
In Jodhpur village of Rajasthan the women are feeding their families, growing their businesses and saving more money than ever before, with the help of a Tata Trusts-CmF programme that’s empowering rural women.
Rural women are key agents for achieving the transformational economic, environmental and social changes required for sustainable development. But limited access to credit, health care and education are among the many challenges they face, which are further aggravated by the global food and economic crises and climate change. Empowering them is key not only to the well-being of individuals, families and rural communities, but also to overall economic productivity, given women’s large presence in the agricultural workforce worldwide.
