Perched at an elevation of 7887ft on the hilltop above the quaint town Sonada is a forest village called Chatakpur.
Life is simple when you do not have to deal with hectic city life and you can get to experience that simple life while visiting Chatakpur. Picking your own vegetable and milking the cattle an experience which city can never give us. Far from the noise of traffic this small village lets you live a life which is free from pollution but full of purity. Chatakpur offers a number of popular trek routes that lead to the top of the Tiger Hill. During this trek, you might even have a glimpse of the 'Chumbalumba' or Mount Everest.
On your visit to the forest, make sure to be guided by a trained forest guard as the forest is the home to the Great Himalayan Black Bear family, Leopards, Barking Deer and Antelopes. There is a pond near the village known as Pokhri which can be used for birding or just relaxing while soaking the beauty of nature. Blue Magpie, Rufous Sibia, Black Redstart, Verditer Flycatcher, Himalayan Bulbul, Pipit, Long tail Shrike, Warbler , Prinia, Blue Fronted Redstart, Water Redstart are the major species one can see in Chatakpur. If lucky enough, one can also get a glimpse of the famous Red Panda.

This is about 140 meters higher in elevation than the location in the previous photo. Here, the autumn foliage would soon come to an end.

These lower elevation mountains have not had much snow this season - it was nice to see them with a small dusting.

Only 5 1/2 mile hike but the elevation gain was quite something.

Joy, sorrow, tears, lamentation, laughter — to all these music gives voice... and we see reality in a new way, as if we were sitting by a mountain lake and contemplating hills and woods and clouds in the tranquil and fathomless water.

Осенняя мелодия горного озера

Радость, печаль, слезы, плач, смех - всему этому музыка дает голос... и мы видим реальность по-новому, как если бы мы сидели у горного озера и созерцали холмы, леса и облака в безмятежной и бездонной воде.

Panoramic view over Patzcuaro lake, Michoacan state, Mexico before sunset. The elevation of the lake is about 2100m. (7000ft) so the climate is quite cool despite being in the tropics, especially in the wet season. This photo was taken from a volcanic hill about 200m, higher than lake level and it got quite chilly after sundown. I spent a few days there relaxing as it was the midpoint of my last trip, there will be quite a few uploads from this spot in the coming days. Michoacan state has had a dangerous reputation recently, with alarming travel advice from governments making people believe tourists will be kidnapped and skinned alive the moment they step over to Michoacan, my experience was completely the opposite, it was one of the most tranquil places I visited. Michoacan is actually one of my favorite states in Mexico.
With no particular motivation other than the hope of a nice sunrise I headed for Blast Beach on Sunday morning. I did manage a shot I was pleased with before it started raining and I performed a temporary pack down. As I waited out the rain it dawned on me that the combination of the very lively sea and the strong northerly winds would probably be seeing some big wave crashes at the harbour. With 20 minutes still to go to sun up I rushed up the beach banks and made the short drive to the harbour to find I was right. A chilly wait eventually saw the break in the clouds coincide with a suitable wave crash and I had my shot..
Discovered at 10,000 feet in elevation, a small lake lies nestled between the towering peaks of the Colorado Rocky Mountains as it reflects the Milky Way and its company of stars that have provided a soft glow in the darkness of night.
Above the lakes, above the vales,
The mountains and the woods, the clouds, the seas,
Beyond the sun, beyond the ether,
Beyond the confines of the starry spheres,
My soul, you move with ease,
And like a strong swimmer in rapture in the wave
You wing your way blithely through boundless space
With virile joy unspeakable.
Fly far, far away from this baneful miasma
And purify yourself in the celestial air,
Drink the ethereal fire of those limpid regions
As you would the purest of heavenly nectars.
Beyond the vast sorrows and all the vexations
That weigh upon our lives and obscure our vision,
Happy is he who can with his vigorous wing
Soar up towards those fields luminous and serene,
He whose thoughts, like skylarks,
Toward the morning sky take flight
Who hovers over life and understands with ease
The language of flowers and silent things!
Charles Baudelaire - Élévation
A masterpiece of poetic imagination and aesthetic exploration. Through his use of vivid imagery, compelling language and daring metaphors, Baudelaire takes his reader on a journey through the heights of human aspiration and the depths of existential despair. Imaging himself as a bird,
soaring high in the air, free from the constraints of gravity and the limitations of the earthly realm. He speaks of his desire to "breathe in the scent of the infinite azure sky," and to "bathe in the sea of the ineffable light."

"Derrière les ennuis et les vastes chagrins
Qui chargent de leur poids l'existence brumeuse,
Heureux celui qui peut d'une aile vigoureuse
S'élancer vers les champs lumineux et sereins."
Charles Baudelaire

The Sumela Monastery, which stands on the foot of a steep cliff facing the Altındere Valley in the region of Maçka in Trabzon Province, Turkey, is popularly known as “Meyem Ana” (The Virgin Mary). The building complex is nearly 300 meters high and was built following the tradition of monasteries that were located outside the cities in forests near cave and source of water. The elevation of the Monastery is about 1350 meters.
The Monastery, founded in honor of the Virgin Mary, took the name of “Sumela” which derives from “Melas,” meaning black. Although it is thought that it has taken this name from the mountains, the Karadağlar (Black Mountains), on which it stands, it could also be associated with the black color of the icon of the Virgin Mary.
According to tradition, the Monastery was founded by two priests called Barnabas and Sophronius who came from Athens during the reign of the Emperor Theodousius I (AD 375 - 395). Then, in the 6th century, it was restored by the General Belisarius at the behest the Emperor Justinian who wanted it to be enlarged and restored.
The Monastery reached its final, present form in the 13th century. It gained importance during the reign of Alexios III (1349 - 1390) of the Comnenian Empire of Trabzon, which had been established in 1204. Its income was assured from imperial funds. During the time of Manuel III, son of Alexios III, and the reigns of later princes, Sumela gained further wealth from new imperial grants.
During the 18th century, many parts of the Monastery were restored and the walls were decorated with frescoes. In the 19th century, the Monastery took on an impressive appearance with the addition of larger buildings. This was the Monastery’s heyday and it attracted many foreign travelers who mentioned it in their writings.
The large building with a balcony on the front part of the cliff was used for the monks’ cells and as a guesthouse, it dates to 1860.
