When I woke up today I felt as though it were Christmas morning! I was looking forward to voting all day. I arrived at Mr.Kitty's house and was informed he had voted earlier so it would just be Carol and me. Look at what a nice view when leaving our polling place too. Had to pose with Peggy's ducks, all decked out for the occasion. When we arrived back at Mr. Kitty's house we were greeted by a very exuberant Venus, shown with Mom in the background. I'm so excited about the results of today's historic election I can barely contain myself! Peace.

It was election day the day before, and the streets were still dotted with gaudy banners and billboards.

On a hexagon in the colours of the French flag are columns on which photographs of three of the candidates for the French Presidential elections in Spring 2007 are stuck, along with extracts from their speeches. At the top of the columns are three strips, also in the colours of the French flag, from which hang opinion polls relating to the concerns of the French people.

This is my scrapbook of shots I taken during the two months leading up to the October 14th 2008 election campaign. I worked for the Leader Tour of the NDP (the New Democratic Party of Canada) as a tour Advance, working out of a plethora of cities, some I had never thought to see in my lifetime. Ottawa, Winnipeg, Fort McMurray, Fort Smith, Edmonton, Kamloops, Halifax, Saint Johns NFLD, Windsor, Hamilton, Toronto.

For much of this scrapbook I took some hints from Henri Cartier-Bresson's asssignment to shoot the coronation of King George VI; while the temptation to shoot Jack Layton was there, shooting everything but was an exercise in observation and timing. What goes on around the focus of so many people?

On that note, you should most certainly visit Mr Cartier-Bresson's site here: www.henricartierbresson.org/hcb/home_en.htm

As for the NDP, it was a thing to see the inner workings of a party that is doing its utmost to tap into the Canadian people and to meet so many, many devoted supporters from all walks of life. All I can say is the NDP doesn't seem to have "a type". An eclectic mix of people who listen. Who really care. Who check themselves even when they are truly right about something. The essence of a succesful democracy.

It's only a matter of time, Jack.
