Tabaski in Dakar 🇸🇳 Every year, Senegal comes alive for Tabaski — a celebration of faith, family, and tradition.
Here’s a glimpse from Yoff Beach, in the Capital of Dakar, a Lightroom edit of an old image to celebrate Tabaski 2025.

This shot was taken on May, 2007. I won by this shot on local competition a Nikon D60 camera [2nd] on January, 2009. somebody said is not well deserved :( How you feel about it my friends, Honestly? your opinion means a lot for me ;-)

In 2012, during the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, the municipality of Schaerbeek set up a tent for the ritual slaughter of sheep and containers to collect the carcasses in the parking lot of the Neptunium swimming pool.
Eid al-Adha commemorates the story of Ibrahim, who was prepared to sacrifice his son Ishmael to prove his faith in God.
This is a composite of ten photos assembled using Microsoft's now-defunct ICE software.

En 2012, durant la fête musulmane de l'Aïd al-Adha, la commune de Schaerbeek a installé une tente pour l'abattage rituel des moutons ainsi que des conteneurs pour récupérer les carcasses dans le parking de la piscine Neptunium.
L'Aïd al-Adha commémore l'histoire d'Ibrahim qui s'apprêtait à sacrifier son fils Ismaël pour prouver sa foi en Dieu.

In 2012, tijdens het moslimfeest Eid al-Adha, plaatste de gemeente Schaarbeek een tent voor het ritueel slachten van schapen en containers om de karkassen te verzamelen op de parking van het zwembad Neptunium.
Eid al-Adha herdenkt het verhaal van Ibrahim, die op het punt stond zijn zoon Ismaël te offeren om zijn geloof in God te bewijzen.
Composiet van 10 foto's samengesteld met de inmiddels verdwenen Microsoft ICE-software.

In the lead up to last years Tabaski Festival I was staying at one of the beaches in the capital of Dakar. The local children would wash the animals in the ocean in preparation for their sale at the market. Yoff Beach, Dakar, Senegal.

This man, a resident of the nearby slum, was selling off the packet of meat he got as charity from the eid al adha.
Muslims who are entitled to sacrifice a cattle, need to distribute 2/3rd of the total meat to others(1/3rd to poor people, 1/3rd to relatives).

On this Eid al Adha .... I bought a white goat for my daughter Rodela Hasan Parisa. My daughter took care of that goat. She passed her whole day even at night in dream with goat. She forgot to take her meal and bath. She repeately requested me not to Kurbani this animal. But Islam teached us to sacrifice for Allah. But what I have sacrifice?...... a Goat or My Daughter's LOVE and EMOTION !!!!!

What is Eid al-Adha?
At the end of the Hajj (annual pilgrimage to Mecca), Muslims throughout the world celebrate the holiday of Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice). In 2010, Eid al-Adha will begin on November 16th, and will last for three days.
During the Hajj, Muslims remember and commemorate the trials and triumphs of the Prophet Ibrahim(Abraham).
