Concentration Camp of the Second World War - Auschwitz and Birkenau, Poland

The 7,500 sick and exhausted prisoners left behind in the camp after the Death March were liberated by Soviet soldiers on January 27, 1945. In the second half of 1944, before the Death March of 56,000 prisoners, because of the approach of the Soviet units the Germans began *destroying evidence* of their crimes. They burned FILES, LISTS of deported Jews and SHIPPED OUT items plundered from victims along with large quantities of building materials.

In the last week of the camp’s existence, they blew up the gas chambers and burned down storehouses full of property left behind by the victims of mass extermination.

The First Power - Hidden Shadows

The First Work and personal analysis of a new series about Our World today.

In the United States presidential election of 1960 was the 44th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 8, 1960.

The Republican Party nominated incumbent Vice President Richard Nixon, while the Democratic Party nominated John F. Kennedy, U.S. Senator from Massachusetts.

Hoover the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) did his best to keep the press supplied with anti-Kennedy stories… while Hoover was trying to sabotage Jack Kennedy’s campaign, he was quietly helping Richard Nixon.

Nowadays the concern with the control of information reaches dramatic measures in which all our emails, mobile phones, searches in the interrnet, Facebook comments or simple photographs are investigated without any control by governmental and federal agencies without anyone knowing.

Hilary Clinton's emails that escaped to this giant network spider served as an excuse for FBI to intervene in the US elections, greatly influencing the end result ... in fact, as John Edgar Hoover did a long time ago with Kennedy !

After all Edward Snowden was only the prophet of future events ... in the end, Democracy can really be in danger as well as our fundamental freedoms !

Snowden Blues - Edward Snowden just published his book "Permanent Record", no. 1 on Amazon - so let me sing my Snowden Blues, just written...

I brought up a photo of Snowden on the computer monitor, and photographed it while intentionally moving the camera to the side during the exposure, and then I tone mapped the image. I think this portrait conveys something of the polarization of opinion about him revealing the highly classified domestic espionage operations being conducted by the NSA. Hero or traitor? Hero.

Even if you're not doing anything wrong, you are being watched and recorded.

A protestor adorning the Guy Fawkes mask was seen in the rally to support Snowden in Central, Hong Kong today.

Originally from the movie V for Vendetta, the Guy Fawkes mask has become the international symbol for the online hacktivist group Anonymous, which might explain why they are often commonly called the “Anonymous mask”.

Although these masks are seen across the globe for different governmental protests relating to the global financial crisis such as the Occupy Movement, it is a rare sight in Hong Kong.

I had expected to see more of these today but this was the only man I saw among the hundreds who showed up today.

Several hundred people have staged a protest march in Hong Kong in support of US-whistleblower Edward Snowden. Demonstrators marched from Chater Garden to the US Consulate in Central. Protesters accused the US government of infringing people's rights and privacy. They said Mr Snowden should be protected. The former CIA-employee, has said he'll stay in Hong Kong to fight any attempt to extradite him to the United States. The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong has urged the US government to clarify whether it has hacked into the computers of any individuals, corporations or institutions in Hong Kong.

The best time to photograph photographers is where there are rallies. I wonder if it may be too hot to keep a beard in Hong Kong. Good posture, nice shirt.

Whether Edward Snowden is a “hero” is up for debate, but what the NSA PRISM whistleblower did achieve is providing evidence which many have suspected—that the US government is mining valuable data on the Internet.

Big data analysis is nothing new—companies who provide free internet services have been doing this for years. Why did you think that Twitter has no advertising but manage to get so much venture capital investments? It is because it is very easy to decipher trending opinions on the web.

Google’s company tagline has always been “Don’t be evil”—mostly because the same technology that can be used for good can be used for evil. Mint.com uses big data to track consumer spending and financial status. Biomedical researchers can use big data to track virus outbreaks. United State government certainly can use big data to track anti-terrorism activities — but the real question is if they would not mine the data for other purposes also.

The other claims which Snowden made and enraged many Hong Kong citizens are evidence which points to US Government’s active hacking of local universities and businesses. Hacking for personal gain is definitely criminal. When the US pointed at China for cyber attacks, they have utilised the media on the side to paint an ugly picture of China, but pointing fingers first simply shows hypocrisy on the country’s own politics. And this fact provided ample ammunition for political activists world wide.

Ever since the famous whistleblower, Edward Snowden leaked the significant information of behind the door data snooping on encrypted systems by local government, public privacy via encryption has been a heated topic of debate in the United States.

Who's snooping on your laptop?

While in hiding, 29 year old Edward Snowden was asked what his greatest fear is. His response gives each of us an opportunity to stand up and decide what is worth protecting and what is worth making sacrifices for. The greatest among us are never afraid for themselves:

"The greatest fear that I have regarding the outcome for America of these disclosures is that nothing will change. People will see in the media all of these disclosures, they’ll know the lengths that the government is going to grant themselves powers unilaterally to create greater control over American society and global society, but they won’t be willing to take the risks necessary and to stand up and fight to change things to force their representatives to actually take a stand in their interests. And in the months ahead, the years ahead, it’s only going to get worse until eventually there will be a time where policies will change because the only thing that restricts the activities of this surveillance thing are policy. Even our agreements with other sovereign governments: We consider that to be a stipulation of policy rather than a stipulation of law and because of that, a new leader will be elected, they’ll flip the switch, say that because of crisis, because of the dangers that we face in the world, some new and unpredicted threat, we need more authority, we need more power and there will be nothing people can do at that point to oppose it. It’ll be turnkey tyranny."

Metadata is not an secret code. It is a history of what you are doing on networks. Edward Joseph Snowden, aka Edward Snowden, is a security contractor who leaked information about surveillance programs operated by the United States and British intelligence agencies.

Washington DC, Saturday October 26, 2013. On a beautiful fall day social justice activists from a bewildering array of often antagonistic groups unite in front of Union Station and march to the reflecting pool near the US Capitol for an afternoon rally. The primary focus was the nearly unbridled and unlawful US government spying worldwide by the NSA and other agencies exposed by whistle blower Edward Snowden.

I wonder if she's done one of Bradley Manning?
