Nestled on top of the picturesque hill of Smokeyvale, St. Andrew is a secret hideaway with beautiful homes used to house students, volunteers and interns. See breathtaking sceneries of the Blue Mountains to the East and a spectacular view of Kingston to the west. This community is a visual feast of ferns, flora and fauna. Everywhere you turn, there will be towering fruit trees, cool breeze and panoramic mountains. Education majors will work one-on-one or in small groups to tutor children of varying levels of educational and physical ability. Participants will visit a local school and university to learn about the educational system in Jamaica.

Augusta University College of Education hosted the first GenCyber Middle Grades Teacher Camp June 6-10, 2016. The camp provided cyber training to 10 education majors and 20 local teachers. The educators come from 16 local schools in five school systems and two private schools. Participants are encouraged to take the cyber skills they learned back to their school and system, potentially impacting more than 500 educators and 8,000 students. The GenCyber Middle Grades Teacher Camp is free for all participants and is funded by a $94,000 grant from the National Security Agency in collaboration with the National Science Foundation.

Kudos-- given to our wonderful K12 International Academy teachers, coaches, and administration throughout the year.

Dr. Mari Carbo, founder and executive director of the National Reading Styles Institute, designated the Augusta University Literacy Center a National Exemplary Model. The designation comes after extensive review of the center’s efficacy rates. Speakers included: Dr. Paulette Harris, founder and director of the literacy center; Dr. Zach Kelehear, dean of the College of Education, which oversees the center; and Dr. Michelle Bryan, Chair of the Department of Advanced Studies and Innovation. Refreshments were served.

Education students learn about the Jamaican education system - and have a little bit of fun - in the Caribbean.

The Augusta University SPED Club hosted a Special Easter Egg Hunt for all children with special needs and their siblings on Friday, April 21, 2017, at the Augusta Headquarters Library. The hunt was designed to be an entertaining way to learn how to use library resources through fun games. The event was free and open to the public thanks to a partnership between the AU SPED Club and the Augusta Public Library.
