Nestled on top of the picturesque hill of Smokeyvale, St. Andrew is a secret hideaway with beautiful homes used to house students, volunteers and interns. See breathtaking sceneries of the Blue Mountains to the East and a spectacular view of Kingston to the west. This community is a visual feast of ferns, flora and fauna. Everywhere you turn, there will be towering fruit trees, cool breeze and panoramic mountains. Education majors will work one-on-one or in small groups to tutor children of varying levels of educational and physical ability. Participants will visit a local school and university to learn about the educational system in Jamaica.

The community packed the Augusta University JSAC Ballroom as the College of Education partnered with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust to offer a 2-day workshop on teaching the Holocaust, along with "A Survivor's Story" with Holocaust survivor Manuela Mendels Bornstein. More than 40 area educators attended the workshop, and more than 200 people attended the event to hear how, with the help of the French resistance, Bornstein escaped Nazi concentration camps.

Augusta University College of Education hosted the first GenCyber Middle Grades Teacher Camp June 6-10, 2016. The camp provided cyber training to 10 education majors and 20 local teachers. The educators come from 16 local schools in five school systems and two private schools. Participants are encouraged to take the cyber skills they learned back to their school and system, potentially impacting more than 500 educators and 8,000 students. The GenCyber Middle Grades Teacher Camp is free for all participants and is funded by a $94,000 grant from the National Security Agency in collaboration with the National Science Foundation.

On Sept. 13, the College of Education hosted a LASER Talk focusing on STEAM education. STEAM education is an approach to learning that uses science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics to guide student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

This engaging forum organized by the Department of Art featured innovative leaders who shared their creative research through brief presentations and an interactive panel discussion. The evening began with a community share session, and ended with a beautiful reception.

The first meeting of Teachers for Tomorrow met Monday, Sept. 19 in the JSAC Coffeehouse to get to know each other and start charting the course of the organization.
