Two of the Caterpillar drivers I met early that summer - I earned some pocket money taking photos of the men and their machines at work on various sections of the motorway.
The Lancaster By-Pass, now part of the M6, was one of the earliest sections of motorway to be constructed in Britain. Work began following on from the Preston By-Pass (M6) and the M1. The new 2 lane each way road was 11.5 miles long, between Hampson Green, just south of Galgate to Carnforth Level north of Lancaster, both accessed from the old A6 highway.

It was a novelty for all of us; they were keen to have a souvenir of their working environment, to show their family & friends. After taking the shots I rode home on my bike, developed the film and was able to give them their photos the following day! I got a lot out of this experience except my school work suffered. Later that year I applied for RAF training in the photographic trade.

Pardoes Promenade 11/02/2022 10h54
In addition to the construction of the new hotel at the entrance of the park, the Pardoes Promenade is being reconstructed. Apparently it will be ready this year so that the visual damage of visitors after passing the construction site is limited and people quickly become enchanted by the wonders of the Efteling.
Looking from the level of Fabula in the direction of the entrance (exit) and Huis van de Vijf Zintuigen (House of the Five Senses).
Pardoes Promenade
The Pardoes Promenade is the broad, expansive avenue that connects the Dwarrelplein with the Hartenhof Square in front of Symbolica. The avenue was designed in unison with the former interpretation of that place, the Brink, and is executed in the visual language of the World of Pardoes. The primary goal of the Pardoes Promenade is the supply of visitors from the entrance to the various park areas, and vice versa at the end of the day. The avenue of 21 meters wide and 270 meters long thus serves as the main vein of the park. There are dozens of eye-catching bronze-colored lanterns, the colossal Wonderwachters lampposts.
The promenade was opened in 2000. It was created within the implementation of the so-called Butterfly Vision on the park, with Promenade and Brink as "body" and the four surrounding empires as colorful "wings", and is a design by landscape architect Mariëlle Kok of Grontmij in collaboration with Henny Knoet and Chris van Grinsven from the Efteling.

As these interesting "orphaned" structures have just received a new coat of paint it is near-certain that they are to be incorporated into the remodelled station.

Note the 'high fashion' accessory of the time - the wartime issued canvas gas-mask haversack! The men would have used it for their lunch gear etc. I still have one of these, issued to my dad circa 1940. The two men at the left are probably going 'off shift', as they appear to be dressed for the road.

The manitou is a good or evil spirit that serves as an object of reverence among some Native American peoples. But Manitou is also a French company specializing in the manufacture of handling, lifting and earthmoving equipment for agriculture, construction and industry. And that's the manitou that we see here at South Street Seaport.

Photographed in Virginia City, Nevada. The tractor is a classic Peterbilt 379, however I don't know the make of the dozer sitting on the lowboy trailer so if some tractor aficionado can identify it please let me know. Most of the Storey County Fire Department's apparatus is blue and white, some of their older units are white and blue.

The open lot across Maylin Street now has this giant hole in it, as a new small condominium is being built there. The pile driving a few days ago made us think there was an earthquake.

A massive landslide in late July 1969, destroyed part of the Eptinger mineral water plant, the graveyard, several houses and a bridge under construction for the N2 Autobahn. Restoration began immediately, this view shows work in progress to stabilize the hillside above the village in September 1969.
Construction of the N2 route beyond Eptingen to the Belchen tunnel is shown, the tunnel entrance is not in view.
