High Dynamic Range (HDR) macro composed from 9 exposures. It was a windy day to attempt exact registration, even with a tripod, so ALE software (version 0.8.11.2) came in handy to align the images. It compensates for motion like translation and rotation and takes different exposure levels into account, great for auto-bracketing. ALE produces a silky smooth image that completely hides jpeg artifacts, and output can be scaled up for the final image. ALE outputs the common 8 bit format found in jpeg and the much richer 16 bit format you can use in HDR capable programs like Darktable Luminance, and Krita. This one started out as a 16 bit TIFF from ALE. Then I "developed" a few versions to 8 bit PNG's using Darktable. Darktable has may features of its own. As you tweak your 16 bit image into an 8 bit version, the preview and histogram update continuously so you have very fine grained control. Finally, I used GIMP to stack the versions I generated with Darktable and used various G'Mic filters (local normalization, tone mapping, bilateral smoothing) to complete the image.

I did a fifteen second pause on top of the stairs, while the others in my family were stepping down the stairs.

Setup: No tripod (thus: imperfections exist!), white balance also was adapted for subway lighting (where we had been just minutes before), so the images ended up very blue. As I shot from left to right one can see the green car on the left progress forward on four of the exposures. The blue car on the right also appears multiple times.

Workflow: Removed WB error traces to my best with PS, then stiched with The Panorama Factory, and finally color adjusted once again in PS.

This is still off slightly from the true colors - but I like it this way; It looks a bit like a bleached old photo ;-)

LOBB

I've been working on bash scripts which call Exiftool to restore EXIF and IPTC information as well as geotagging data. One of the things it does is merge in any XMP information in companion files -- the XMP files contain whatever camera raw adjustments have been made, so when I viewed these in Bridge the adjustments had been applied twice for extreme effect. The original copy of this shot wasn't really worth uploading but the yellows caught my eye with the doubled-processing due to the embedded metadata.
