MAIKO literally translates to "dancing child" (mai = dance, ko = child), but is also referred to as "dancing girl". A Maiko is an apprentice Geisha who must must undergo a period of training that generally takes 5 years, where she learns the various "gei" (arts) such as dancing, singing, music etc before she becomes a Geisha.

Se ubica en el municipio de Paola en el sureste de la Isla de Malta, siendo declarado por la UNESCO Patrimonio de la Humanidad en el año 1980.

Es un increíble yacimiento arqueológico de unos 5000 años de antigüedad; se trata del único templo subterráneo conocido. Fue edificado por unas personas que llegaron a la isla, no se sabe cuándo, se desconoce su procedencia y como se extinguieron. En teoría sólo queda de ellos es esta obra subterránea descubierta en el año 1902 durante las obras de construcción de una cisterna. Se considera que su primera función fue la de santuario y que posteriormente, pero aún en tiempos prehistóricos, se convirtió en una necrópolis, dada la cantidad de restos humanos encontrados en este lugar.

Se empezó a trabajar en su excavación en el año 1907 por el padre jesuita D. Manuel Magri y posteriormente por el arqueólogo Temístocles Zammit. Posteriormente la restauración de este lugar se efectuó entre los años 1992 y 1996. En las obras de excavación de este lugar fue encontrada una pequeña escultura denominada “La Durmiente”, que en la actualidad se encuentra en el Museo Arqueológico de la ciudad de la Valeta.

La oficina del Patrimonio Maltés ha restringido la visita a este lugar a 80 personas al día, si se tiene idea de visitarlo es aconsejable efectuar la reserva con antelación. En la visita no se puede llevar ningún objeto personal; cámara de fotos, bolso etc…, hay que dejarlos en recepción. Estas fotos expuestas en Flickr son escaneadas de unas postales que vendían allí. Breiðamerkurjökull is an outlet glacier of the massive Vatnajökull in southeastern Iceland. It emerges as a large tongue of the Vatnajökull, and it ends in a lagoon, the well known Jökulsárlón, where this image was taken. It is said to be the deepest lake in Iceland, at over 248 m.

The storm raging the days before pushed a lot of the ice into one side of the lagoon, but some nice big pieces were closer by. A stitch of two telelens photos gave me this composition, showing a large building-sized chunk in front of the blueish ice-world where it came from.
