It's pretty amazing that this show was happening literally a block from my apartment. ESG was awesome!! I never saw them back in the day but they had some great energy tonight.
I also thought it was hilarious that the security guard checking my bag wondered aloud why I wasn't protesting at the moment in Germany...oh, I used to be known way more for my concert photos. And the times, they are a changin'

Am 16.02.23 konnte völlig unerwartet diese von der der ESG 1 gezogene Überführungsfahrt einer alten Henschel Rangierlok am Dormagener Chempark angetroffen werden. Die Richtung Köln fahrende Fuhre bestand aus der Zuglok ESG 1, einer alten grünen Henschel Lok mit der Nummer 7 und einem grauen Gos Wohn und Aufenthaltswagen der P&O Unirail.

Ashland, part of the Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG), with embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is operating in the Indo-Pacific region to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency. 'ESG 652 is a Guy 5LW with Metro-Cammell bodywork, new in 1948. There were 20 new single deckers in 1948/49, all with Metro-Cammell 35 seat rear-entrance bodies. Ten of these were on Guy chassis, ESG 644-653, and 10 on Daimler chassis, FSC 155-164. These were perhaps the best of Edinburgh's
single-deckers. The interiors had brown leather seats and ornate alhambrinal ceilings.
I used to travel home from school on these, on the Service 46. They used to suffer from vibration and a rough ride over the cobbles, when the sliding windows would sometimes drop down! But they seemed quite roomy. The Guys were slightly noisier than the Daimlers, but I preferred them. They were certainly preferable to the Bristol / Brockhouse buses where the windows were too high up (FWS 155-169), or the assorted collection of rebodied
pre-war Daimlers. The Roe bodied Crossleys (GSF 334-337) were only used on Service 15 from Juniper Green to Eastfield and I travelled on them to my grandmother at Joppa. They had front entrances which were quite unlike other Edinburgh buses. Just after I had gone to school my mother and I went on one and I remember being quite terrified as the bus was very dreary, being
painted dark brown.
The Guy buses ESG 644-653 were originally numbered A131-A140 when new in July-September 1948, then renumbered 731-740 in May 1951. In 1956 they were again renumbered to 831-840.
835 was withdrawn in 1959, 837 in 1960 and the others in 1961. 832, 833, 834, 836 and 838 were converted to roadgritters in 1962 and very smart they looked, retaining the bus cab with a large hopper on the rear. 839 and 840 became driver training buses in 1961 and passed to Jasper Pettie Consortium in 1973. 840 was stripped for spares and 839 was preserved as shown in this
photo taken on an Edinburgh Classic Bus Running Day. It is now renumbered back to 739'. /
