La chaza es un deporte practicado en varios municipios del suroccidente colombiano. Consiste en un juego de pelota sobre una cancha oblonga (más larga que ancha) elaborada en cemento. Es extraño, a la gente le gusta, se sientan a disfrutarlo, se organizan equipos y hasta campeonatos mundiales con países como Italia, pero si usted pregunta nadie puede darle una explicación certera de sus reglas. Solo algunas anotaciones que hacen pensar en que se parece mucho a un juego de tenis sin malla.
Me encontré a un grupo de paisanos jugando chaza bien bonito en un corregimiento llamado Santa Bárbara en el municipio de Sandoná, mientras mis compañeras de viaje negociaban la elaboración de unos sombreros de paja toquilla para nuestra participación en el Carnaval de Negros y Blancos de Pasto. Yo aproveché para conocer el pueblo y tomar fotos. Me senté como todos, me emocioné con algunas jugadas y me angustié porque casi todas las tomas salieron movidas. La verdad es que todo sucede muy rápido y es difícil capturarlos con la pelota cerca.
En fín. Esta toma me gustó, no solo por que se ve la pelota, sino también por el gesto de esfuerzo y por la destreza con la que este amigo demuestra su pasión por las costumbres de nuestra región.
