So, this is the closest Sammy will let me get to birds. He chases them by instinct and I think the little flyers know it ;-)

MILW ES-2 class number E80 sits in the yard at Butte, MT with one of the iconic MILW rib sided cabeese numbered 01812. These shots weren't dated but I believe its sometime around 1970-1973. In my string of negatives from around Butte on this day I found three of the four ES-2s were in Butte on this day, E80-E82. Sister E82 would go on to be the last Milwaukee Road engine to be powered by electric wire around 3AM on the morning of June 16 1974.
► █░▓ THERE WAS A TIME in this peaceful countryside when the regions high above the ground were dominated solely by the church towers and wooden windmills. In the last two centuries they had to give way to the various technical constructions. Here, the sails of the Westmolen cannot compete with the propeller blades of the Windpark Giessenwind next to the A15 highway. Less than two decades ago the popular protest couldn't save the "Green Heart", the authentic farming rural area at the heart of Holland surrounded by the major cities. The Betuwelijn, a major cargo railway line was layed down solely for the purpose of cargo connection between the Port of Rotterdarm and the German cities. Now the railway is frequented by colossal train compositions over a kilometer long. The traffic over A15 was growing immensily too. There is a local passenger train line next to the Betuwelijn, the two busy gas stations and the power plant. They all have cut the Green Heart between De Biesbosch and De Aveligen next to Boven Merwede loose from De Alblas next to De Lek.
To the eye roaming the skyline above this area, the Windpark Giessenwind is often the most prominent object. BUILT BY Giessenwind B.V. in 2013, the windpark consists of 3 Enercon E82 wind turbines, each generating a maximum of 3MW. Seen here from 4.25 km distance.
I've been watching them in sun and clouds, days and nights, and they are at their most exciting in stormy weather when their white color contrasts the dark skies. The flattening long telephoto perspective symbolizes surrendering past - the old fashioned windmill is sinking low as the technical structures rise high in the sky - antennae, wind turbines, power plants... Even the reflector poles are higher than the pride of the past - the still rotating Westmolen hier in the foreground.
My attention for this shot was drawn by the unevenly lit windmills. Each of the three had for a short moment caught different light against the backdrop of ominous dark skies high above the North Sea.
Done handheld with support, with the cheapest Olympus telephoto zoom, 40-150mm f/4-5.6 at medium throw of 116mm (230mm in 36mm film format) on my ancient E-M10 (Mark I) still working fine. Developed from raw and edited in Affinity Photo 1.9.2.
Milwaukee Road E82 switching at Deer Lodge, Montana. The E82 continued in service until the end of electric operations on the Milwaukee Road on June 15, 1974. The E82 was the last Milwaukee electric locomotive to operate on the final day, after the Little Joes were stored upon arrival at Deer Lodge.
The Milwaukee Road had 4 ES-2 class electric switchers: 2 were built in 1916 and the other 2 in 1919. They were of steeple cab design, with a single roof-mounted pantograph to access the Milwaukee's 3,000 volt DC overhead line. Originally numbered 10050–10053, they were renumbered E80–E83 in March 1939.

This image pays tribute to the Companies and Corporations that helped EPCOT Center to become a reality. Inspired by “Bokeh” style photography, this image takes the technique a step further by both sharpening and defusing the logos simultaneously in the same image.
This image was created as part of a new series of articles profiling the sponsors of Epcot’s pavilions and their relationship to the Walt Disney Company. The release of this image also coincides with the on-going “take-over” of E82 by ENCOM International as part of a celebration of the release of TRON Legacy.

“B1NR” by DICTO is an innovative, open-source “binary” sculpture system created by the Osaka-based sculptor, using just two standardized components—PET bottle security rings as multi-notch nodes and nylon zip ties as tensioned connectors—to build complex geometric structures from everyday waste.
“Binary:1-Nil-Repeat” (B1NR) draws its name directly from binary code, where bottle rings form sleek zeros (0)—circular voids of pure geometry—and ties serve as ones (1)—straight, commercially available recycled zip ties that bind them. This visual duality simplifies assembly into repeating polyhedral modules from recycled PET bottles, embodying Buckminster Fuller's ephemeralization: achieving "more and more with less and less until eventually you can do everything with nothing." These zero-one-nil forms create lightweight, tool-free sculptures that scale from handheld orbs to public installations.[1][2]
Visual Binary Mapping
- **Zeros (Rings)**: Curved bottle sections, forming negative space for tensegrity and light play—empty yet essential.
- **Ones (Ties)**: Commercially available recycled zip ties, identical in form to the numeral 1, providing tension without bulk.
- **1-Nil-Repeat**: The emergent void-repeat pattern, minimizing material while maximizing structural repeats.
Assembly Insight
Stack zeros into binary pairs, interlock with ones, and let nil spaces emerge naturally—no adhesives needed. This one-nil poetry turns waste into ephemeral art, echoing Fuller's efficiency.

Milwaukee Road class ES 2 Electric Switcher Built by General Electric built between 1916 and 1919 also known as Steeplcabs. This photo was taken by G.J. Bolinsky at Tacoma Washington January 1975. I get this feeling that E80 E81 E82 are setting on the scraping line since the over head power was shut down in 1974. Wow Milwaukee History is slowly disappearing.
