The static giant Maria Montessori ( MD11 ) towers over Princess Amalia ( DC 3 ) at the static parking, the wing tip of Florence Nightingale can just be seen to the right about to take off on its final flight just after 15.30 hrs.
On Tuesday 11th November 2014, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines organised 3 special farewell flights from Amsterdam to say farewell to their long serving McDonnell Douglas MD 11 type aircraft, this ending a lifespan of involvement with Douglas & McDonnell from the DC2, DC 3, DC 4, DC5, DC6, DC7, DC8, DC 9, DC 10 & finally MD11.
These special farewell flights, KL 9895 @ 9.30, KL9897 @ 1200 & finally KL9899 departed from gate C22 at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, 1 hour in duration, each packed with enthusiasts, friends & staff to mark the end of an era.
PH-KCD "Florence Nightingale " did the honours of each flight, while sister PH-KCB "Maria Montessori" remained on the apron alongside photos.
To celebrate the era, Douglas DC 3, which was the first Dutch government airplane since 1946, " Princess Amalia" did a special ground circuit in front of Florence Nightingale after the final landing as both planes paraded around the airport in full airport vehicle convoy, including a water canon salute by the airport fire service.
Sincere thanks to KLM Dutch Airlines for an amazing send off, quite allot of logistics involved for the three special flights, with flights sold out initially within 4 minutes, the special check in desks at Schiphol, the running commentary by the flight crew during the flight, the cabin crew for attempting inflight service in the melee yet smiling all the way to the static display on arrival back just as darkness fell on MD11 passenger operations...in the world.

For all sake and explanation; Holland is not the name of the country. The kingdom of the Netherlands is the fully name. Holland only referates the two provinces at the coast North- and South-Holland. Between 1973 and 1994 CN = Centraal Nederland (Central Netherlands due to geographical circumstances and areal of servicing) played an important role in all my explorations about routes, rides and other rolling features but above all the type of bus for long a standard one throughout the Netherlands. The upper one belongs to the series 2500, a Leyland-Den Oudsten (Works at Woerden) the lower one DAF-Den Oudsten series 9200 and for al a pure Dutch product.

I bought three of the ERF E-series cabs when they were first released by the late Frank Waller of Road Transport Images and all three have now been built in very different forms. This final example sits on a shortened Cararama chassis and body and is a close but not 100% exact replica of Bert Holland's former Miami transport D661 GFK.
The Dutch embassy in Berlin was designed by Rem Koolhaas and his OMA Studio in 1997 after winning a competition to build it.
After the destruction of the former embassy during the Second World War and after the fall of the wall, building a new diplomatic headquarters in the city for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs was a great step. The choice of the site along the river Spree, with the intention to emulate the typical landscape and canals of Holland, are a representation of the care with which this work has been done. It is said that with this work, Koolhaas completed sealing the role of architectural chancellor of his country.
In 2005, the Dutch “Mies van der Rohe” won the Prize for Contemporary Architecture of the European Union, displaying a total of 242 projects. Among the 5 finalists were included the Stade Municipal de Braga, project Soto de Moura, the Swiss Re headquarters in London, Norman Foster, the department stores Selfridges & Co. in Birmingham, Jan Kaplicky and the esplanade and photovoltaic plant Forum 2004 in Barcelona, Spain, Lapeña Martinez and Torres Tur.
The jury, among whom was the renowned architect Zaha Hadid, awarded the work to whomever highlighted the close relationship with the environment and the reconceptualization of the notion of an embassy. Koolhaas emphasized that “it is not a spectacular project, but modest, severe, that departs from the assumption that the Netherlands has traditionally been a peaceful country that has lived with the agony of war throughout its history, and now established its embassy in Berlin, a Berlin city so mired in war.” Koolhaas said that “the rigidity of the urban planning authorities of the former West Berlin, would have left the project in a typical neighborhood of embassies, and instead we were fortunate enough to find a depressing, yet full of melancholy site in the former GDR. The perpetrators of the former East Berlin were open to the proposal.

Rhodes town -
It is worth noting that Dutch tourists recorded an increase of 16.7% last year, as 87,086 visited Rhodes compared to 74,577 in 2017, after the recovery of tourism from that country.
Between April 11 and April 14, the first mass arrivals of tourists in Rhodes Island is expected, due to the Catholic Easter holiday on the 21st of the month.
