I'm about to leave the Lakes after a great trip. A morning storm is seeing us off after some testing warm conditions. The stone hut at the edge of Honister slate mine can fit half a dozen or so people for a night in the mountains. There are wooden sleeping platforms inside and a stove (bring your own wood!).

My viewpoint here was from the slate mining waste piles above the stone hut. Haystacks looks on in the background.

Built in 1999 and operated by bmi until 2006. The aircraft then served with a succession of Turkish carriers (Inter Airlines, Atlas Global and then Onur Air) but was damaged beyond economical repair at Antalya on 26 January 2019 when it was struck by airport equipment during a tornado, causing damage to forward fuselage.

Dublin, March 2003. This was one of the first Brasilias to appear in Europe, when it was leased to DLT as PT-SIJ in 1986. Having passed through the hands of several operators, it was scrapped in Spain in 2011.

73117 & 73005 dub dub across the Spey River flood plains in the shadow of the 444 meter Creag Dhubh just south of Kingussie. The converted and re engined 73s now known as 73970 and 966 head the 1M16 2045 Inverness to Euston Caledonian Sleepers. The sun had long set and the lighting was diminishing fast. I was pushing the limits of normal hand held photography and I have paid the price with the foreground not being as sharp as I would like but in a week where a 66 normally piloted the up sleepers two 73s were a welcome sight and the black and white treatment is the best way to maximise this shot.

The owners of these VWs appear to have a very dedicated following of the VW marque. Their organization is 'Desert Dubs.' They seem to appear together and travel together to various car-related shows on Saturday morning.
