When an orc tribe has killed a dragon, the remains are often used to make a dragonboat. This is then gifted to the dragon-slayer (or his family), and used to search the seas for ships to raid.

Built for the Medieval Warship Category for the CCC (www.classic-castle.com/events/ccc/prizes.cgi?contest=cccxiv)

The inspiration from this build mainly stemmed from the skeletal frame I developed in my last creation, the Skahz'gul and how it could be used to make a dragon skeleton for the front of the ship, compared with simply a wooden one. Some black dragon wings that I had left over from a fell beast I built a while back gave me the fabric I needed for the sails and the idea was born.

I took this shot in April 2007 when we had dragonboat races at Deep Cove, BC.

After weeks of rain, it is finally clear

Thanks everyone for all the comments and faves. I've been extremely lucky with this shot. The dragonboat team had been practising for almost an hour but always too far away to take a good shot. Just before the last rays of the sun disappeared they made one more passby, just within shooting range....lucky me.

Germany, Hamburg, Miniatur Wunderland, USA, …“Viva Las Vegas“

The Miniature Wonderland is the largest model railway in the world. The scales of cars, figures, buildings etc. of the Miniature Wonderland are adapted to the HO gauge of the trains. Not only the trains are moving, also many cars, ships, airplanes taking-of & landing. Everywhere are buttons to press installed, to start single functions, like on the “Elb-Philharmonie”, pressing the button, half of the building will open-up & the wings are swinging to the sides like a huge portal to have a look inside of the building.

Ever since the year 2000 the Miniatur Wunderland has been steadily growing. Work on the first theme-worlds started on December 15th, 2000 & finished on August 16th, 2001. Further theme worlds are in the planning until 2028.

The arrangement is steadily growing, actually sections are 9 completed model layouts; Austria, with Knuffingen, Central Germany & Hamburg with airport, harbour & the new Elb-Philharmonie, the USA, Scandinavia, Switzerland & Italy. The cost of building until 2017 this fantastic Wonderland, which makes the eyes of all ages shining is approximately 16 million €, estimated until the year 2028 this will probably 20 million € & amounting to over 900,000 working hours.

Every single building, landscapes, figures are etc. are hand-made to exact scale & detail in their own workshops.

Just a few facts until 2016;

floor space 10,000 m², layout size over 2,300 m², track Length approx. 20,000 mtr.

Trains approx. 1,300, wagons more than 17,000. Longest train 14.51 mtr. Buildings & bridges 6,000,

lights over 400,000. Figurines over 400,000, kidnapped Figurines yearly 3,500.

Cars 11,000, trees 200,000

Staff 360 & 64 computers to run the set-up.

Construction Cost approx. 25,000,000 €

I was out at the bay front shooting in the pre-dawn and saw a dragon boat crew going through their paces. The sky seemed appropriate to their efforts.

Despite the rain, they did manage to hold a few races. These racers were getting psyched up on their way to the next race.

This was taken at the 2017 Portland Dragon Boat Races. There are several teams of people who have survived cancer. These race and when they return to shore they are received with flowers and paddles held high in an arch.

Spent a great day with colleagues dragon boating on Friday. Took the opportunity to continue experimenting with time stacking images. This image uses both time stacking and an opacity blend to soften the result. Thanks to GWN www.gwndragonboat.com for some great photographic opportunities.
