our last heatwave of the year is upon us . and blessed rain soon .. i dislike the browns of August , but i love the flowers

Macaws are perhaps the most easily recognizable birds in the parrot family. Colorful and entertaining, these birds have been kept as pets for hundreds of years. These birds are characters, each having different personalities, likes, and dislikes. Due to their size, macaws can be challenging to care for, but they are loyal companions who are worth the time commitment.. When properly taken care of, some macaw species, such as blue and gold macaws can live for an average of 60 years, and many have been recorded to live for up to 80 years or even more. Those who are interested in adopting a macaw are strongly cautioned to make sure that they are willing to commit enough time to care for their pet. It is not at all uncommon for these birds to outlive their owners, so make the same provisions for their care as you would for any other dependent.

This is an old photo. I am posting it to remind myself that, for all of the things that I dislike about winter, there is something that I absolutely love about it!

The same Great Horned Owl as yesterday's upload, taken shortly after I found her. She was amazingly close, and I had walked right by her without noticing her presence.

Once I was over the shock of seeing this beauty, I ignored her, and in a relative slow, quiet and methodical fashion, started setting up my tripod. I chimped by pointing the camera in some similar shady spots in another direction before placing the camera on the tripod directing it at her.

She was looking a bit tense, so even though a shot of her looking directly at me would be engaging, I didn't think it was worth the risk if it caused her to fly away. Instead, I wanted to build a tentative trust and reassurance, that I would not overly disturb her and I wasn't a threat. When she relaxed and looked away, I then took some shots.

I'm so glad I waited, for she did take exception to the noise of the shutter. This started the wait game for me. Take a few shots, she would get tense, I'd wait till she relaxed, and when she presented a better pose, I'd snap a few more.

I have found, with owls in the past, that this give and take can work quite well. Each time the owl becomes more relaxed more quickly, and regards one as a noteworthy and stressing subject less and less.

It wasn't perfect with her, for she really disliked the shutter. I am so glad she was patient with me when the sun broke through and I relocated to a greater distance away that provided the dark backdrop of yesterdays upload.

There she stayed till the dog walkers woke up and started coming through the forest. It was only then, that she decided it was time to leave. I didn't follow...

Small colorful harmonic in human hands. Photo taken at the NAMM exhibition in Sokolniki, Moscow. Russia.

There are pink spots on the plastic parts of the instruments, I really dislike them, but this is not digital noise, but a pearlescent coating. I've tried removing them, but the patterns can be damaged.

I don't dislike the cold but when I woke Sunday morning and saw -9, I had some serious doubts about going out. I left all my sleepyheads in their beds as I headed downstairs to find my coffee and work up the courage.

When I arrived here in Quidi Vidi, I remembered why I do these things. I could sit here in the cold for hours just listening to the sounds and watching the morning develop. It was a perfect winters day.

Winter is, by far, my favourite season. I just tend to forget it at 6:30am when I'm snug and cozy in bed! I got to try and remember though because I need more mornings like this!!!

It wasn't a LOT of snow, but it was the third snowfall in as many days. Can't they arrange things better than that?

Another phone picture from a winter field nearby. The tree is right in the middle and the snow line also goes through the middle. I wasn't sure at all about this, but I dislike the thought of cropping it (I did try and didn't like it)

I'm not particularly fond of gold. My images seem to have a mind of their own lately!

This is a combination of 3 DDG results. I liked and disliked elements of each style, so merged them in Topaz with the original image, then did a little finishing off in Photoshop.

Ayot St Lawrence old church in Hertfordshire is a picturesque ruin, in the village of the same name, due to the strong dislike of the local squire. Sir Lionel Lyde hated the old building, which was visible from his home, and had it replaced in the late 18th century by a Greek revivalist church on the other side of his manor house. The old church was partly torn down for building materials and was partly ruined for 'romantic effect' in the early 19th century - this process only ending in 1999 when the Ames family donated the graveyard to the Ayot Old Church Preservation Trust. Since then the trust has used English Heritage and Heritage Lottery Fund to conserve the ruins and open the grounds. The old church dates from around 1150AD and was originally a nave and short chancel only. It was remodelled in Early English style in the mid-13th century and a small north aisle was added. A north chapel was added in the early 14th century and the chapel was extended. In turn the former north aisle wall was moved further north and continued the line of the north chapel's wall in the early 15th century. The present tower was finally added over the north aisle about 75 years later, probably in the late 15th or very early 16th century.

Yes, I know, I know! It's sugar-coated and overly syrupy... But this week's theme gave me the hardest time of all themes I've done so far! Everything I tried I disliked and all my ideas seemed to me like a bad reproduction of something wonderful someone else had already posted and I didn't want to do that...

In the end, this was the only photo that felt marginally acceptable to present without loads of processing and perhaps I'll save a shot or two for Valentine's lol

Well... we can't have it all ;D

HMM and happy new week everyone :)))

I really dislike beer - but it really is very pretty!

First of all, apologies for not having been around. I’ve been following his example of staring into the distance and striving for a complete state of comatose oblivion. And obviously, this worked rather well for me and him. Even though I recently picked up the camera again, did not really find anything worthwhile to record. My lack of motivation was and is a contributing factor.

Merry Christmas to all of you and having the best of intentions to post some more. Same as last year, I still dislike Christmas songs intensely, so I am using this one as an alternate.

Blank Space – Amy Vachal (The Voice)

We all have our preferences for when to use one or the other. Most use the liquid one for a quick handwash and a bar of soap for baths and showers.

I hate it when staying in a hotel not to be given solid soap for my shower and really dislike when the handwash is the only thing available. We generally end up taking our own soaps or hand washes with us!

I generally dislike birding on sunny days. There are extreme highlights and shadows that make taking photos and using bins a challenge. Sometimes however you can get it just right. This little Hermit Thrush paused a moment deep in a pine (I think?) and created a stunning image with the backlit sun fighting to stream into the shadow. Although these birds aren’t spectacular, I still love this image.

That red lichen was everywhere along the east coast of Tasmania. I can't blame it I suppose. If I was a red lichen, I'd be likin' hanging around those turquoise waters too.

I'm still a Photoshop guy but if you can't afford their fees you may like to give Gimp a go as its entirely free.

We had our carpets cleaned yesterday so all of Jasper's toys were stowed away for the day. Last night Jean got them all out again, but hid Jasper's Giggle Ball. But what do you know, he dug through his toys and found it. We really dislike this toy. It's hard as a rock and makes this awful gurgling noise reminiscent of extreme gastrointestinal distress. But he does like this toy and gets it out somewhat regularly. Somehow he can get it in his jaws. Every time we just pray he doesn't drop the thing on something valuable, like our toes. It's rock hard and heavy as a stone. We'll have to do better at hiding it 😉

We all dream of travelling, but waiting in airports is the part I very much dislike!

Taken during sunset in the Munich airport, pre Covid 19 !

So, normal people tend to bundle up, stay inside, and avoid creepy places in the middle of the night when it's in the twenties.... Not photographers... evidently we flock to creepy locals, ignore freezing temperatures, laugh in the face of pitch black doom.... All in the name of a decent photo. This is a gift shop, open during the summer. I've been itching to take a photo of it for a week or two now. Thankfully I didn't discover the no trespassing sign till the end of the shoot.... I dislike trespassing, or breaking any laws in the name of a photo. This building burned down not long after this photo, and I have never been able to correct the shot... this was originally taken in 2016.

I dislike many aspects of Rodeos, but there are many beautiful animals there. I loved this horse, especially.

I apologize in advance to any who could possibly dislike this season, but as for me... I'm jolly!

I dislike this shot and its only on here to show how the pretty background colours were accounted for on the beach leaves shot. The sun was hitting that pinky coloured cliff from a late afternoon sun in that shot though. The cove looked close to our campsite and I made a start with nothing much to do except take a LE...We were alone but a couple with a little dog very similar in appearance to Merry appeared. My camera was on a tripod of course and I was using a cable release - more reliable I find. Anyway the woman tentatively approached me and stood gazing the way my camera was pointing and asked " what are you taking a photo of " I have to admit she had a point lol....we read reviews about that cove AFTER we just dobbed a finger on the map and set off. The place had toilets (closed) a cafe (closed ) and a gaggle of ragged tents around the corner where several rough sleepers actually live. They got bad press for the litter they didn't clean up but if you have to sleep rough I suppose there are worse places than the little sheltered cove. Now the reason we returned was that it had clifftop woodland walk and our dogs enjoyed it and the sun hit these cliffs making them a beautiful pink and the water turquoise, however the sun was dropping fast but I was not tempted down to this cove for a second attempt as the descent fairly steep if short..and the sun had gone within a short time.

Hope you have a wonderful Sunday all :)

Note to self: I shaved, but I dislike shaving. And I dislike growth as well. Probably close to a week this time.

Purrcy took an instant dislike to this little "plastic" cat that sits on top of a pen...

I couldn't believe all the shots I got of him trying to chew his head off!!

This is my entry for Macro Monday - Plastic...

I really dislike people being trained on a single decker. You need to have the awareness of a high vehicle, so you are looking for overhanging trees etc - and signs on bridges!

Re-edited 2022

A friend and I discussed how much we dislike this time of year because everything looks bleak and brown and ugly. But I remembered that last year in March I walked around this lake and took some pictures with the phone. A few days ago one of the Flickr groups had a "bare branches" day and I saw a lot of inspiring images. So I decided to be more positive about the "in between seasons" days.

Just to explain: the white band in the middle is receding ice.

Looking west tonight over the city of San Francisco.

Shadowy Sutro Tower (1973) stands to the far left. It is an important radio and TV antennae for the region, including all (most?) of the local TV stations, and many more important radio functions. Although disliked when first built, many now consider it a local landmark.

To the right of it is the newish skyscraper, Salesforce Tower. Salesforce is taller, although it doesn't look to be from this perspective. Read more on Wikipedia.
