At present time, this is my unique radio tools to make long range radio stations experiments. But this give me a new ideia! With the little Sony SW-10 and a digital tape recorder I was able to detect thousands miles far away AM radio stations from northern Africa, Europe and Middleast. For example: Morocco,Tunisia, Spain, Norway,Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc... Morocco is a country located in the range of 5200 miles from my site. Soon I will be trying to detect AM radio stations from Tahiti, India, China and Koreia, that is for us in Nadir position (an astronomy word to say that is just below our foot but in another side of the world...). Detail, I don't use any another special antenna but that same short lenght ferrite loopstick found inside the Sony SW-10 radio! But for this world scan it's need a tip... Please visit this album to learn more about this new method and my long life dedicated to radio spectrum experiments. Thanks.

Given to me by Leigh Hanlon. I love this stereo recorder. Read more about this on my blog post www.spudart.org/blog/recording-children-singing-in-stereo/
The new black model is even better designed than my worn but still reliable old model. It soon became so useful and easy to put in my pocket that I always carried it with me (partly as a pocket watch).
At first the old model was mostly a neat new gismo I wanted to see if I'd use and find helpful for anything. Now I use it to remind myself of things to photograph, of details about pictures just taken, of things read, of things I've been told, of groceries to buy, of books to order, of interesting things seen, of titles of music on the radio that I like, of ideas about what to include in email letters I'll be writing, of ideas for other writing, of German words (which I'm learning to read), etc.
The old VN-90 holds about 33 minutes voice notes at the highest quality setting, in up to 99 files (in mostly 2 folders), recorded with only a high sensitivity microphone that lets nearby traffic drown out voices. The newer VN-2000 holds over 7 hours of the highest quality voice recordings in up to 400 files (in 4 folders) and has also a lower sensitivity mike that eliminates most background noise. The VN-2000 also allows indexing within files, has an option for the microphone to be voice activated, and has better designed buttons, display, and programming (its big folded sheet of instructions is clearly written and illustrated). Even though the newer model is much better you probably won't be surprised to hear that it is cheaper than the old model was when I bought it several years ago.
(Years ago after I got tired of wearing a wristwatch or carrying a traditional pocket watch, this digital voice recorder also became my time piece. The new model has even has yet more sophisticated alarm options, but I don't expect to use them).
No, I don't sell these and don't have any stock or connection with Olympus. There could well be better and cheaper digital voice recorders from other companies -- I don't know and haven't checked into that at all. This just happened to be what I bought and liked.

Mark 8:33b... "Get behind me, Satan! For you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things."
So, here are a few of my "human things." I don't think this verse should ever be taken to me that God does not care about our physical bodies or our material needs. It does, however, remind us that we can sometimes lose perspective when God does things that don't fit with our plans for this world. What are the "human things" that I am thinking of these days that I need to put aside?

Now it's spring in the southern hemisphere. Here in Brazil where I live, sometimes we are awaked around mid night or 2:00 AM with sounds of bat calls. It's is interesting that these bats chirps are between 9.5 and 7.5 kHz, besides they are low audio frequency (not ultrasound). I think that they are some fruitbat specime, because since I started to feed them (with bananas slices), I noted some enhancement in bat presence. In this spectrogram it's possible to see some bat signals (chirps) but also bluried by his own surrounding echoes.
Red Polls make their presence well known during winter months...feed one and you're feeding them all in no time! Their numbers range from a dozen to dozens at a time.
