This is a journey in music & cinema. The intention is to present a short segment as if it were excerpted from a larger work.

MUSIC:

I composed and recorded the music during February, 2011. The piano and accordion I performed/recorded on acoustic instruments, with Digital Performer. The voice-over & orchestral sounds I recorded via Logic Studio and the Garritan Professional Orchestra.

VIDEO:

I shot the video over Christmas weekend, 2010, Canon 7D, Zacuto Z-Finder, EF 50mm, EFS 17-85mm, Manfrotto fluid head tripod.

Filmed in Ronda & Sevilla, Spain. My great new friends Tony Bishop and Eva Bratek drove me all over southeast Andalucía, and enabled me to get the lovely shots in Ronda - thank you forever!

I created this kinda mad improvised guitar and bass thing... I then synched the tempo to them.... so that effects could be synched to there tempo.. more or less... and then part way through I was hit with the impulse to add drums...

The idea here is this kinda strange... way of thinking about music... I guess... where you have no idea what beat of what measure your in.. or its like this strange disembodied thing..

What I'm sorta gong after is this kinda extreme exception... or this way were the mistake transcends into Gold...

I like to call it post serial atonal indertmanncy ... err however you spell that

#1 Yes.. it's a duel monitor set up. #2 Yes we are using digital performer. #3 For plugins we are using Motu's Masterworks EQ, and there Masterworks Leveling amplifier (compressor) and... and... what looks like a limiter from Waves... and.. and we can tell its an apogee interface.

Digital Performer Effects by matt.searles

This is most of Digital Performers Effects.. most notable for it's absence is the Master works limiter.. which I actually use all the time.

DP is sorta a mixed bag for effects, and I think just looking at the graphics here.. you get something of a sense of this.. how old some of these are..

For me the most used effects are the Master Works EQ, Master Works Limiter, Trim, eVerb.. though I don't particularly like eVerb.. ProVerb, and Delay.. with the Master Works Leveler coming in sorta close

Minus Polar perhaps, this is all the instruments that ship with Digital Performer...

I will say that I rarely use them.. and I'm not really super impressed by them.. I don't think they're quite enough to get you started, if you didn't already own other software / hardware instruments

Mastering Natural Fonzie by T.bias

Natural Fonzie played Rot Fest '09 and I took video with my Lumix ZS3 and audio with a Zoom H2 stereo mic recorder. Matched them up in Final Cut Pro and then processed the audio to clean it up and give it more punch in Digital Performer.
