Un ave tan adaptable como la Paloma Zurita, que puede criar en cualquier clase de terreno, desde los campos cultivados, bosques y parques hasta acantilados, es lógico que se halle repartida por toda España. Su número parece haber aumentado durante este siglo.
Las palomas zuritas son aves sociables con tendencia a criar en colonias poco densas en lugares adecuados; pero aun así se producen disputas territoriales entre los machos, que se amenazan uno a otro en tierra atacándose con las alas. En España la mayor parte cría en orificios de árboles, lo mismo en bosques (encinas, alcornoques, etc.) que en sotos (sobre todo en olmos); una pequeña cantidad también cría en peñones.
La masa principal de zuritas en España es la que llega en otoño procedente de toda Europa, algunas de ellas en fechas bastante tempranas. Se da la circunstancia de que esta paloma coincide casi totalmente con la Paloma Torcaz en sus desplazamientos otoño-invernales por el interior de nuestro país, mezclándose con ella en los bandos de alimentación, aunque siempre en menor número; de todas maneras parece que se reparte más ampliamente durante el invierno, regresando en febrero y marzo.
Identificación: Plumaje gris; se distingue de la Paloma Bravía por no presentar rabadilla blanca; dos cortas barras negras en cada ala; más pequeña que la Paloma Torcaz, faltándole además sus visibles marcas blancas de las alas; sexos iguales.
Nidificación: Anida habitualmente en agujeros de árboles o en roquedos; no aporta material a los nidos en agujeros; pone desde marzo a septiembre 2 huevos blancos; incubación, alrededor de 17 días, por ambos sexos; los pollos, alimentados por ambos padres, vuelan después de unas 4 semanas; dos crías, a menudo tres.
Alimentación: Semillas de herbáceos y grano; algún alimento animal.
Hábitat: Monte bravío

Usually, when I stop by to see these horses on the way home from work I don't have any treats for them. This time, I worked late so when I left no one else was around, and the lady next door feeds all the rabbits there. She left out some carrots so my kids picked up some of them and we took them to the horses. The horses came right over. Then the owner showed up right after us and I have met him before. He is very nice and has offered to let us ride them. L blurted out the question, "can I ride one of them?" and the owner put L on the back of the dark one and led him around the pen. Then L wanted me to ride. None of us were in horseback riding clothes, we all had shorts and flip-flops on. So I got on and rode around the pen, and I have a funny picture to post of it... tomorrow. My daughter wanted to ride but she didn't want to ride. We eventually got her to get on, but driving home she started breaking out in hives and itching. That is what happens to her around farm animals unless she has a Benedryl before-hand. We were done with our rides and the owner what going to take them to give them a bath anyway.
