10 beautiful mega pixels on a tiny 6x4mm CCD sensor add up to a buttery film-like digicam delight.
Beautiful afternoon at the lake with my wife and daughter.
Hmmm? - does this camera qualify as a Digicam?
Back in it's heyday it was a great camera with an 8MP 1/2.35 CCD sensor and a Leica 28 wide lens OIS stabilization.
Chainless bicycles, plastic coated cook pans, electric cars, 100 MP 5 foot sensor cameras - things change. But the old stuff is still fantastic - let's go for a ride in my 2003 Gran Marquis V8 😀
千里之行,始於足下
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Laozi
I filmed this in a place closely associated with Laozi in China at the Taoist Park.
As the moments passed this photo evolved.
1st I was set up to photograph that fella enjoying a smoke sitting on the pile of wood... but that would be just a picture of someone sitting.... Mmmmm
How to bring some interest. How long do I have?
So I turned around and framed him up in a reflection of an abandoned building. Mmmmm This has to be better....
Enter the DIVA ---- Cool hat....
...and our smoker just looking at the crazy man who is taking a picture of a window.... 😳
It was times like this which sent me on a 4 month investigation looking for a reliable "street' worthy camera which could take clear colorful images on the run and in subdued lighting.
Though this particular shot has a certain appeal in it's blurred presentation, I lost too many moments due to my 3 digicams not delivering quality pictures. Don't get me wrong. Digicams are a delight and their SOOC colors are delicious, but for street in the variable lighting of downtown Chicago I needed something more.
The reason I chose my two Olympus cameras were; IBIS, colors, clear tilt screen, small size, reliability, price.
I was not going to pay 4 times what I paid for my Olympus cameras to buy some of the famous small "street" cameras. But I did get the quality those cameras create...
People have asked me why I talk about my photos and their photos. Well first and foremost Flickr is an ‘interactive’ photography forum and none of us are destined for Magnum.
So let’s have fun and learn from one another.
Although the pictures do lack a bit of dynamic range, I am still surpised at the quality from this old camera.
The camera first cama out in 2012, jpeg only and I've seen it offered at £7.50. Wow with decent editing it's great fun.
First picture out of a charity shop camera which broke my New Years resolution of no new cameras in 2023. However mitigating circumstances as I have an Instagram (sorry Flickr) page dedicated to CCD sensor cameras. It’s challenging to use these older cameras as the dynamic range is not so good but, it’s real fun photography. Looking back to my Canon G9 and Canon S95 I realise that Canon cameras of that time had wonderful colour and being less than a couple of pints in a pub (not that I drink, sadly) it worth it to me.
One of the first pictures out of the Olympus FE-100 which was purchased today at Luton Camera Repairs. First sold in 2005 but my copy has not been used and although far from perfect does have a film like quality. The camera has an internal memory which holds 27 frames and I have an external card which I get a further 17 frames. Bit like a roll of film when you think about it.
