Das Fährschiff “Margret Læsø” (IMO 9139438, MMSI 219000407, Rufzeichen OZMB) lief am 6. September 1996 unter der Baunummer 227 als “Læsø Færgen” auf der Werft Nordsøværftet in Ringkøbing vom Stapel und wurde Anfang März 1997 zwischen Frederikshavn und Vesterø Havn in Dienst gestellt. Im Juni 1997 wurde sie in “Margrete Læsø” umbenannt.
Die “Margrete Læsø” ist 68,5 Meter lang, 16,3 Meter breit, hat eine Seitenhöhe von 4,55 Meter und einen maximalen Tiefgang 2,90 Meter. Sie ist mit 3.688 BRZ vermessen und hat eine Tragfähigkeit von 480 Tonnen. Die Fähre ist für 589 Fahrgäste zugelassen und kann 76 PKW befördern.
Das Schiff wird von zwei Viertakt-Sechszylinder-Dieselmotoren mit zusammen 2940 kW Leistung angetrieben. Die MAN-B&W-Motoren des Typs 6L28 wirken auf zwei Verstellpropeller. Für die Stromerzeugung stehen vier Dieselgeneratoren mit jeweils 420 kW Leistung (525 kVA Scheinleistung) zur Verfügung. Weiterhin wurde ein Notgenerator mit 200 kW Leistung (250 kVA Scheinleistung) verbaut. Das Schiff ist mit drei Bugstrahlrudern ausgestattet.
