A reconstructed timber frame pub and restaurant in what used to be a warehouse on the shores of St. Katharine's Docks.

The Dickens Inn is an original warehouse building near Tower Bridge dating back to the 18th century. It is thought to have been built in the early 1700s as a tea factory or a local brewery.
Years later, it was converted into a tavern, with sawdust strewn floors and no bottled or canned beer would have been stocked. Diners also enjoyed candlelit meals on the balconies; this practice has been phased out due to modern fire safety regulations!
All 120 tonnes of The Dickens Inn was moved 70 meters east to make room for a new housing development.
The original timbers, tailboards, and ironwork were used in the restoration and the building was reconstructed in the style of a three-story balconied inn of the 18th century.
In May 1976, The Dickens Inn was opened by the grandson of Charles Dickens, Cedric Charles Dickens.

I just had to share this with you. I shot this thru my bedroom window. Dickens, my blind goose, found her way to Otto's bed I keep outside on the porch and settled in for a little nap. I just thought it was so cute.
If you can see this on a large screen, you can see her eye and the blue where it should be a brown iris and black pupil. I think she has a bit of sight, but not good at all. She walks into posts all the time and she will walk right over food and water bowls all the time. But she still manages to get around and seems very content in my back yard. Of course I have a pen that she and Goldie my duck go into for safety at night.
I do frequently have to hose duck and goose poop off the cement but it's a small price to pay
getting bigger by the day.
I'm about 99 percent sure he is totally blind or very nearly totally blind. And I'm definitely mommy. He sticks by me like glue. When I'm out in the front area of my house, I make him walk around a lot and he keeps close track of me. If I sit down and call him, he runs to me and climbs in my lap. I guess I have a goose for good now. I need to set up an outdoor enclosure for him. Right now he is still in the 100 gallon horse trough with the heat lamp, in my bedroom and I take him outside several times a day. Took him down to the creek yesterday.
I just need for Otto and Tank to stop looking at him as dinner. Sugar and Midnight are both very cool with him. A work in progress

Charles Dickens lived from 1812 to 1870 and is the best known and most influential English writer of the 19th century. The fairytale world that Dickens described was mainly the world of his earliest childhood. The Dickens Festival is the opportunity to meet a large number of main characters and secondary characters from Dickens' books. The Victorian era, named after Queen Victoria, is a time of great social contradictions, of wealth but also of great poverty.
This is on the Old Bridewell former police station. It recalls that Dickens indeed was a one day serving policeman during his extensive research for literary purposes in the area.
Coming to the end of this elliptical, rather than circular walk. Only taken about four hours, disregarding the ferry trip...and the odd stop for tiffin.

According to Wikipedia, The Eight Bells is a grade 11 listed public house in Old Hatfield, Hertfordshire and it has a timber frame from around the sixteenth century and a nineteenth-century front.
The pub has associations with the author Charles Dickens. Dickens is known to have stayed there in the 1830s, and it is believed to be the pub in Hatfield visited by his fictional character Bill Sikes.
I missed this pub when our office moved in 1999.
