On the right edge of the image, two angels warm a white linen cloth near the fire. The damaged thatched roof of the stable is repaired by angels. Mary is seated on her bed, a bed of green branches on which rests a red and gold blanket that seems to embellish the poor setting. With one hand she holds the bowl of soup and asks the child to come and eat. But the baby, having shed his diapers, runs naked towards Joseph, who offers him two pears. Two shepherds are kneeling behind the low wicker fence that surrounds the stable. They have come to adore Mary and the child.
