Last shot of my first days in Dhaka. Lots more from Bangladesh but it's time for something completely different for a couple of weeks.
German built locomotive 2714 arrives at Dhaka Kamlapur with an Inter City passenger train. Note the guy 'surfing' the locomotive. This is a Henschel degigned locomotive however the last batch of locos are credited as ADtranz so had a different engine to the Henschel ones.

The redeeming feature of this photo is that it shows my first confrontation with Dhaka traffic by foot and the challenge of simply crossing a street, having only arrived that morning. And it was one of the very first shots of more than 8,000 to follow.
Hazratpur, Keranigonj, Dhaka
Description
The size is little smaller than bulbul and larger than small bee-eater. The beak is black and a blackstrip is present from the beak to neck covering the eye. The head, breast and near the neck the color is chestnut or brown. The wings are greenish-blue, the rump and tail is blue. Adults has long tail pins. Sexes alike.
Distribution
It can be spotted throughout the Indian union, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan upto 1000 meters in the Himalayas. It is winter visitor of Andaman and Nicobars.
Food
It eats mainly dragonflies, bees, wasps etc.
Habits
It likes to reside in wooded country where jheels or streams are available. It perches on wires and branches and hunts bees, dragonflies, wasps etc. It’s call is like “te-tew,te-tew” and discernible from the call of small bee-eater.
Nesting
March to June is its nesting season. It creates its nest in river banks. The nest is like a tunnel with an egg chamber at the end. It lays 5 to 7 white roundish oval eggs. Both sexes share the parental responsibilities.

MEM-14 2301, built by MLW in 1969 pauses on its final approach to Dhaka Kamlapur railway station.
These popular locos, known better by their Indian designation, YDM4, are still used by Bangaldesh Railways on long distance 'commuter' services on the still extensive meter gauge network.
This service is thought to be the Vawal Express from Dewanganj to Dhakar.
And yes- it is possible to ride a train and take a lineside shot- the pause was just long enough to disembark onto the ballast to catch this composition before jumping back on when the wheels started turning again!

Andromedans have chosen Dhaka. They do not seem to like busy traffics, or so much disorderly hustle and bustle of a typical workday. Or, maybe it is the number of the masked persons that has startled them. But they did not know of COVID.
