Dewa Sanzan (出羽三山, "three mountains of Dewa") are three sacred mountains in Yamagata Prefecture, each with a shrine on or near its peak. The mountains are named Haguro-san, Gas-san and Yudono-san and remain centers of mountain worship. Representing birth (Haguro-san), death (Gas-san) and rebirth (Yudono-san), the mountains are usually visited in that order.
Dewa Sanzan is a center of Shugendo, a folk religion based on mountain worship, blending Buddhist and Shinto traditions. Shugendo practitioners, called yamabushi, perform feats of endurance as a means of transcending the physical world. Training includes such tasks as long pilgrimages and endurance of the elements.
Part of Dewa Sanzan's appeal is its remoteness. Yamagata's heavy snowfall makes travel in the mountains difficult during the winter when only Haguro-san remains open. The best time to visit is between July and mid September when all three shrines are open.

This depiction of Dewa Ruci is an allegory of human desires who continue to want to track down the whereabouts of their God by carrying out spiritual exploration. According to Javanese philosophy, humans are a small universe or microcosm (small world). And the universe is a big universe or macrocosm. But basically, the human universe is bigger than the universe. Because whoever knows himself, then he knows his God
The philosophy of Dewa Ruci in Javanese wayang stories is about searching for identity, obedience to teachers, and independence. This story also illustrates that humans must achieve perfection by knowing their true identity. The following are some of the philosophies contained in the story of Dewa Ruci: Manunggaling Kawula Gusti Man must unite with God, or unite with his last strength. The search for knowledge and perfection Humans must seek the origins and purpose of their lives to achieve perfection. Introduction to identity Humans must recognize their origins as God's creation. Search for the meaning of life Man must seek the meaning of his life and act in harmony with God's will. Getting rid of lust Man must get rid of lust and calm his soul in order to be one with God. In the story of Dewa Ruci, Bima is the main character who was ordered by his teacher, Resi Drona, to look for the water of life on Mount Candramuka. Bima managed to overcome various obstacles, including meeting giants and dragons, and finally met Dewa Ruci.

Alak Dewa Sertri Nhenangchen monastery is part of the Labrang Tashikyil monastery.
It is one of six great Gelukpa monasteries in Tibet and, although many small capels have yet to be restored, it is amongst the handful anywhere in Tibet that survived the Cultural Revolution relatively intact. It was founded in 1709 by the First Jamyang Zhepa Ngawang Tsondru འཇམ་དབྱངས་བཞད་པ་ངག་དབང་བརྩོན་འགྲུས་ (1648-1721), who was revered as an emanation of Tsongkhapa`s teacher Umapa Pawo Dorje. Within the Gelukpa hierarchy, the incarnations of Jamyang Zhepa are superseded only by the Dalai and Panchen Lamas. During his studies in Lhasa, where he was a contemporary of Desi Sangye Gyatso, he received his title `Jamyang Zhepa`(laughing Manjughosa), when a statue of Manjughosa (Jamyang) laughed at his prostrations. Returning to his homeland, he then founded the most powerful monastery in Amdo, under the patronage of Chahan Tendzin Ponjunang, a prince of the Qosot Mongolians.
