Some really destructive fires past our place a few months ago. Lots of people died, it's as if a nuke was dropped. The winter snow provides a stark contrast to the devastation .

The 1924 Lorain, Ohio tornado was one of the deadliest and most destructive tornadoes in Ohio history, striking the industrial city of Lorain on June 28, 1924, and leaving devastation that shocked the entire nation. During the early twentieth century, Lorain was a thriving steel and shipbuilding community along the shore of Lake Erie, populated by thousands of factory workers and immigrant families who had come to the area seeking employment and opportunity. On the afternoon of June 28, weather conditions across northern Ohio became increasingly dangerous as heat and humidity combined with powerful storm systems moving across the region. Around 5:00 p.m., a violent tornado formed west of the city and moved northeast toward Lorain with terrifying speed and force. Residents had little warning because weather forecasting technology in 1924 was primitive compared to modern systems; there were no radar networks, emergency sirens, or television broadcasts to alert people of approaching danger. Many citizens did not realize the seriousness of the storm until the tornado was already entering the city. Witnesses described the tornado as a massive black funnel cloud surrounded by lightning, roaring winds, and flying debris that darkened the sky like night. As the tornado tore into Lorain, winds estimated at more than 200 miles per hour destroyed homes, churches, schools, factories, and businesses within minutes. Entire neighborhoods were flattened as buildings were ripped from their foundations and shattered into splinters. Streets became blocked with debris, overturned vehicles, broken glass, and fallen utility poles, while electric and telephone lines were destroyed, cutting communication across the city. The waterfront and industrial districts suffered especially severe damage as railroad cars were overturned, factory buildings collapsed, and boats along the Black River and Lake Erie shoreline were tossed aside by the storm’s tremendous power. Many residents were trapped beneath collapsed buildings, and families became separated during the chaos. The tornado caused horrifying loss of life, killing approximately 85 people in Lorain alone and injuring hundreds more, making it one of the deadliest tornadoes ever recorded in Ohio. Additional destruction occurred in nearby communities including Sandusky, bringing the total death toll across northern Ohio to around 90 people. Hospitals quickly became overcrowded as doctors and nurses struggled to care for victims suffering from broken bones, severe cuts, burns, and internal injuries. Rescue workers, volunteers, and ordinary citizens searched through wreckage for survivors and recovered bodies for days after the storm. Thousands of residents were left homeless, forcing emergency shelters to open in schools, churches, and public buildings. Relief efforts from neighboring communities, charitable organizations, and the American Red Cross provided food, clothing, medical supplies, and financial aid to survivors trying to rebuild their lives. Newspapers across the country carried dramatic stories and photographs of the destruction, bringing national attention to the disaster and to the courage displayed by Lorain residents during the recovery effort. Despite the enormous tragedy, the people of Lorain demonstrated remarkable resilience as they rebuilt homes, businesses, and factories over the following years. The tornado also had a lasting impact on weather science and disaster preparedness in the United States because storms of this magnitude highlighted the need for better forecasting and public warning systems. At the time, meteorologists often avoided using the word “tornado” in forecasts because officials feared causing panic, but disasters like the Lorain tornado eventually encouraged improvements in severe weather detection and communication. Today, the 1924 Lorain tornado remains an important event in Ohio history and serves as a reminder of both the destructive power of nature and the strength communities can show during times of tragedy.

People's power normally elicits at least a frisson of sympathy. But the antics of the People's Alliance for Democracy - which neither represents the people nor seeks democracy - has failed to provoke anything but disdain. The alliance of middle-class Thais, whose supporters have occupied both of Bangkok's airports and reduced the elected government to working out of a northern city, threatens lasting damage to the country's economy and its fragile institutions.

Destructive little buggers. When I was growing up, with a father who loved horticulture, Japanese beetles were the bane of my existence! Here, I was able to get a shot of them as I walked by someone else's garden!

# Hurricane Ike is the third most destructive hurricane to ever make landfall in the United States.

# Disaster assistance for Texans affected by the storm has reached nearly $2 billion.

# More than $443.5 million in disaster assistance for housing, disaster-related needs and disaster unemployment assistance is in the hands of Texans for Hurricane Ike recovery.

# The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved more than $476 million in low-interest disaster loans.

# More than $583.5 million has been billed to FEMA for short-term, transitional sheltering in hotels/motels for eligible applicants. Some 4,602 eligible individuals and families are still participating in the program.

# More than $308 million in public assistance funding has been obligated for local government infrastructure repair and debris removal costs.

# FEMA has provided temporary manufactured housing for 2,617 applicants or 72 percent of the 3,648 applicants eligible for direct housing assistance.

# More than 20 million cubic yards or 85 percent of eligible debris has been cleared from disaster-affected counties.

# There are 13 FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Centers open in affected counties, offering face-to-face assistance. More than 139,000 visits have been made to the centers.

# Hurricane Ike was the most intense storm in the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season.

# The storm had the highest Integrated Kinetic Energy, the measure of storm surge destructive potential, of any Atlantic storm in history.

# More than 11,000 building permits have been issued by the City of Galveston since Hurricane Ike made landfall.

# Damages from Ike are estimated at $27 billion (2008 USD), if the estimates are true, Ike will be the fourth costliest Atlantic hurricane of all time and third costliest U.S. hurricane of all time.

Since 2014 I've been documenting the daily, destructive, poisonous chemtrail activity in the Dayton, Ohio area -- home of the notorious Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (visited by every important person on Earth, and even a few Aliens ;-) -- and apparently from my photo and video documentation, Chemtrail Central. This area has been getting chemtrailed on a massive, daily basis and is being conducted, as they say, “in plain sight”. I've got over 10,000 high-resolution pictures already uploaded and available for free on Flickr, with thousands more on the way:

But the antics of the People's Alliance for Democracy - which neither represents the people nor seeks democracy - has failed to provoke anything but disdain. The alliance of middle-class Thais, whose supporters have occupied both of Bangkok's airports and reduced the elected government to working out of a northern city, threatens lasting damage to the country's economy and its fragile institutions.

An evening walk after a very rainy day.. the sun came out but the waves continued to impact the vulnerable sea wall at Old Colwyn.

This storm last year destroyed trees in a 25 mile area that was close to 10 miles wide. This lot was a heavyily forested area. Recovery is still taking place

This is Halifax, The destructive nature of progress...

Non-destructive testing of the new lamp posts they installed a few days before in our street.

Presumably the attachment on the JCB clamps onto the lamp post, this then applies controlled vibrations to it. A device is attached lower down and records the vibrations, or lack of. Presumably the results indicate if the post is pooped, or the foundations.

If you ever doubt the destructive capacity of human beings, it's worth remembering how close we came to exterminating elk.

They were extirpated in Wisconsin by the 1860s. By the 1880s, when the United States had only one sixth of its current population, elk were gone from northern New Mexico.

Humans also have a lot of constructive capacity. In 1915 two train car loads of elk were captured in Yellowstone and transported to the Pecos wilderness. Those that survived the winter were released the following spring. Today's New Mexico elk are descended from those Yellowstone transplants.
