Born in Canton, Ohio; Lives in Los Angeles, California
Linda Lyke, a L.A. artist and Professor of Art at Occidental College, is known for her printmaking, multicolored abstract monotypes and mixed media work. Linda has shown in fifteen one-person exhibits and 80 national print and drawing exhibitions. Her work is represented in many private and public collections including the University of Melbourne, Australia, Security Pacific in Los Angeles, the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Belfast Print Workshop. Linda’s work explores two distinct artistic directions; the intuitive process of abstraction and the destructive beauty in nature.

Following the destructive fire in October 2010 Hastings Pier Charity, a Community Benefit Society, has been undertaking the project to rebuild and reopen Hastings Pier.
This picture was taken in July 2015 showing the work progressing. These are original railings from the Victorian era cleaned, repainted and re-installed.
The pier is scheduled to re-open in March 2016.

A destructive social parasite on other species, the cowbird lays it's eggs in other birds' nests, leaving the foster parents to raise the young cowbirds without the parent cowbirds' help. Because the cowbird eggs hatch sooner, the young cowbirds have a head start, growing faster and generally usurping most of the food, leaving the rightful fledglings to starve (or be pushed out of the nest by an inherited behavior of the young cowbirds). The populations of many species of birds have be severly impacted by cowbirds. Formerly a herd-follower on the Great Plains, upon settlement by European immigrants, this bird moved into the chopped up, formerly-unbroken eastern forests and began victimizing the forest birds had/have developed very little defense against the onslaught of the cowbirds.

Tommy is a Golden Retriever Mix, 2 years old about 65 pounds, enjoys children, other dogs and life! Will be fixed soon. Crate trained, VERY neat, and non destructive.
Throw a ball and he is a happy guy!
Tommy is a happy, loveable dog waiting to find his family. He always has a smile on his face and is ready to go play at the beach or hang out in the back yard and watch you garden.
Tommy came to us Feb. 21st and was one of the last of the hoarder dogs to make it out.
Non-destructive testing was used to determine structural integrity of the bulkhead gate. The study recommended replacement with a new gate that can withstand the pressure of the lake's target elevation. Dam operators prepared the gate for the inspection.

‘Drawn to broken things, I decided it was time to give in to my destructive urges on an epic scale. I collected as much silver plate as I could from car-boot sales, markets and auctions. Friends even donated their wedding presents. All these objects, with their various histories, shared the same fate: they were all robbed of their third dimension on the same day, on the same dusty road, by a steamroller.
I took the fragments and assembled them into thirty separate pools. Every piece was suspended to hover a few inches above the ground, resurrecting the objects and replacing their lost volume. Inspired by my childhood love of the cartoon ‘deaths’ of Roadrunner or Tom and Jerry, I thought I was abandoning the traditional seriousness of sculptural technique. But perhaps there was another unconscious reason for my need to squash things. My home in east London was due to be demolished to make way for the M11 link road. The sense of anxiety lingers even now.
The title was borrowed from the Bible. Thirty pieces of silver was the amount of money Judas received for betraying Jesus.’

Cornelia Parker is one of Britain's best loved and most acclaimed contemporary artists. Always driven by curiosity, she reconfigures domestic objects to question our relationship with the world. Using transformation, playfulness and storytelling, she engages with important issues of our time, be it violence, ecology or human rights.
The exhibition will bring together such iconic suspended works as Thirty Pieces of Silver 1988–9 and Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View 1991; the immersive War Room 2015 and Magna Carta 2015, her monumental collective embroidery, as well as her films and a wealth of her innovative drawings, prints and photographs. Some works will spill out beyond the confines of the exhibition and infiltrate the permanent collection, in dialogue with the historical works they reference.

It isn't often that a destructive wildfire comes so close to threatening your home and livelihood, but today, was one of those days.
Earlier this afternoon, I awoke from a mid-afternoon nap to the sound of a loud helicopter flying unusually low over the house. It woke me to the point where I couldn't go back to sleep, so I checked Facebook, only to see a post from my next door neighbor alerting us to the smell of smoke and a very large cloud behind the house.
Right away, I soon discovered that a large fire erupted less than two miles away, and placed all of Lake Limerick under an evacuation advisory. Thankfully, we were not evacuated, but almost a thousand Sheltonians have been.
I began taking these about an hour after the fire began, with the last photo taken approximately seven hours later. It is presently estimated at nearly 300 acres, with 0% containment.
Let's keep all those affected in our thoughts tonight.

Variable Squirrel (Callosciurus finlaysoni)
An extremely cute squirrel - but it is quite destructive to the trees - strips off the bark from the trees... :(

Status: Introduced
Interesting Facts: The Variable Squirrel or Finlayson's squirrel is native to Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and South Vietnam. However, in recent years, several were spotted in the wild in Singapore - most notably in Bidadari. Possibly, escapees or released by irresponsible pet owners - have heard that the initial few were previously pets in the Seven Day Adventist Hospital which used to be opposite Bidadari which moved out years ago.
The Variable Squirrel may look adorable but it may become a threat to our local flora and fauna.
In Italy, two pairs of the Variable Squirrel were released in a park in the 1980s. Today, about fifty Variable Squirrels were reported in the original release area. Variable Squirrels are known to strip off tree barks, causing damages to the trees.
In Great Britain, the introduction of Grey Squirrel has caused a progressive disappearance of the native Red Squirrel. Will the Variable Squirrel here threaten our native Slender Squirrels and Plantain Squirrels in future?

Somehow the cat managed to push the toaster oven onto the floor. The mystery is HOW? The oven has rubber feet making it hard to slide. I had set a bunch of stuff in front of the oven, and the blender was on one side with the Kitchenaid on the other. I heard one giant crash (along with breaking glass) just a minute after kicking the cat out of the basement. So it's not like he had time to survey the scene and make a plan. Cat? Or poltergeist?

Powerful destructive storm rolling in over top of the retail Giant. Snow, Ice, Hail, Rain and high winds are predicted.
After such a destructive Atlantic hurricane season, I'm especially glad that this one is over. I made this satellite montage over the course of the season that captures all 18 of the year's storms; the storms themselves were drawn manually. The storms displayed are at or somewhat near their respective peak intensities, with track-points displayed in conjunction with the pseudo-satellite images. The storms are superimposed on NASA's Blue Marble imagery, slightly desaturated for easier viewing.
The information and tracks for the storms is accurate to the latest data from the National Hurricane Center, though this can change when the agency conducts post-season reviews (e.g. I suspect that they may upgrade Jose to a Category 5 based on some of the reconnaissance data I've seen).
This is a label-less version of the original montage I created.

It's time for fundamental changes and reconstruction!

The word ‘warning’ appears in large, red, all capped letters which wrap around four edges of the box. The warnings are also able to repeat themselves without interruption once several boxes are stacked upon on another. They also lead into the warning information which is large and displayed on the back.
The package contains a small syringe, which would hold only one dose, and the surgical tubing that is used to block the blood flow while injecting. All of this is meant to be used once and easily disposed of to discourage the sharing of needles. The needle is intentionally small so that dosage can be somewhat limited, therefore overdosing somewhat prevented.

A destructive social parasite on other species, the cowbird lays it's eggs in other birds' nests, leaving the foster parents to raise the young cowbirds without the parent cowbirds' help. Because the cowbird eggs hatch sooner, the young cowbirds have a head start, growing faster and generally usurping most of the food, leaving the rightful fledglings to starve (or be pushed out of the nest by an inherited behavior of the young cowbirds). The populations of many species of birds have be severly impacted by cowbirds. Formerly a herd-follower on the Great Plains, upon settlement by European immigrants, this bird moved into the chopped up, formerly-unbroken eastern forests and began victimizing the forest birds had/have developed very little defense against the onslaught of the cowbirds.

Silver and copper wire
‘Drawn to broken things, I decided it was time to give in to my destructive urges on an epic scale. I collected as much silver plate as I could from car-boot sales, markets and auctions. Friends even donated their wedding presents. All these objects, with their various histories, shared the same fate: they were all robbed of their third dimension on the same day, on the same dusty road, by a steamroller.
I took the fragments and assembled them into thirty separate pools. Every piece was suspended to hover a few inches above the ground, resurrecting the objects and replacing their lost volume. Inspired by my childhood love of the cartoon ‘deaths’ of Roadrunner or Tom and Jerry, I thought I was abandoning the traditional seriousness of sculptural technique. But perhaps there was another unconscious reason for my need to squash things. My home in east London was due to be demolished to make way for the M11 link road. The sense of anxiety lingers even now.
The title was borrowed from the Bible. Thirty pieces of silver was the amount of money Judas received for betraying Jesus.’

Cornelia Parker is one of Britain's best loved and most acclaimed contemporary artists. Always driven by curiosity, she reconfigures domestic objects to question our relationship with the world. Using transformation, playfulness and storytelling, she engages with important issues of our time, be it violence, ecology or human rights.
The exhibition will bring together such iconic suspended works as Thirty Pieces of Silver 1988–9 and Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View 1991; the immersive War Room 2015 and Magna Carta 2015, her monumental collective embroidery, as well as her films and a wealth of her innovative drawings, prints and photographs. Some works will spill out beyond the confines of the exhibition and infiltrate the permanent collection, in dialogue with the historical works they reference.

The destructive results of a mighty supernova explosion reveal themselves in a delicate blend of infrared and X-ray light, as seen in this image from NASAs Spitzer Space Telescope and Chandra X-Ray Observatory, and the European Space Agency's XMM-Newton.
The bubbly cloud is an irregular shock wave, generated by a supernova that would have been witnessed on Earth 3,700 years ago. The remnant itself, called Puppis A, is around 7,000 light-years away, and the shock wave is about 10 light-years across.
The pastel hues in this image reveal that the infrared and X-ray structures trace each other closely. Warm dust particles are responsible for most of the infrared light wavelengths, assigned red and green colors in this view. Material heated by the supernovas shock wave emits X-rays, which are colored blue. Regions where the infrared and X-ray emissions blend together take on brighter, more pastel tones.
The shock wave appears to light up as it slams into surrounding clouds of dust and gas that fill the interstellar space in this region.
From the infrared glow, astronomers have found a total quantity of dust in the region equal to about a quarter of the mass of our sun. Data collected from Spitzers infrared spectrograph reveal how the shock wave is breaking apart the fragile dust grains that fill the surrounding space.
Supernova explosions forge the heavy elements that can provide the raw material from which future generations of stars and planets will form. Studying how supernova remnants expand into the galaxy and interact with other material provides critical clues into our own origins.
Infrared data from Spitzers multiband imaging photometer (MIPS) at wavelengths of 24 and 70 microns are rendered in green and red. X-ray data from XMM-Newton spanning an energy range of 0.3 to 8 keV (kiloelectron volts) are shown in blue.
Although they're destructive, leaving holes all over my geraniums, I look forward to visits from these katydid nymphs because they're fun to photograph. Flash power was adjusted to minus 1 2/3 to prevent overexposure from the flash being so close.
