Egyptian National Railways (ENR) EMD GT22 3879 is framed between a palm tree and semaphore distant signal as it makes its presence known in the street scene as it accelerates away from its stop at Fawwah with a service from Al Busayli to Desouk in the Nile Delta.
These locomotives appear to be the mainstay of traction on the 'improved' local trains in the north of Egypt. This one was a lucky catch as we neither this line or location had been on our radar when planning the day- As is often the case however, many roads follow the railways, and once we saw a few locations with potential on our drive, it was the obvious thing to check whether a train was due - fortunately, given there is only a service every 3 hours on this route, there was, and thus train 635 was chased for a few photos between the ever increasing clouds.
Egyptian railways have a very pleasing (almost American looking) livery and interesting trains- if it were not for the fact that our hobby is virtually illegal in the country, I am sure it would be a very popular hobby destination!
