Liubov Popova: From Painting to Textile Design

In 1923 the painter Liubov Popova began creating designs for fabric to be manufactured by the First State Textile Printing Works in Moscow. This paper looks at the development of her involvement with constructivism while also examining the relationship between her textile prints and the abstract language of her earlier paintings.

The mold is an ice "cube" mold for making thin sticks of ice to fit in water bottles.
This mold is not oven or microwave proof, so I must separately melt the wax, then pour it into the mold. But I love the results, so I take the trouble.
They are almost perfect replicas of the "BESCO" crayons I had as a kid. They were much larger - and somewhat harder - than regular Crayolas, and came only in a set of eight. But they lasted for years.

Was at Mylapore today to attend the Mylapore Festival which is conducted by Sundaram Finance every year. All great cities have a soul. Mylapore can rightfully claim to be the soul of Chennai city here in south India. It pre-dates Chennai's birth and has seen the city grow as it has, its own. Mylapore retains the look and feel of an old neighborhood, the culture and heritage typically south Indian, yet it has not escaped development. This place then is also just the setting for a cultural festival. That is why the Sundaram Finance sponsored Mylapore Festival is organised every year in January, on the eve of the local harvest festival of Pongal.
