At the start of a whole house renovation, it's not uncommon for people to ask about increasing ceiling height throughout the house. "What if we raise the roof so we can get more height inside? What would that cost?" An honest answer to that question usually snuffs the idea.

Certainly, there are easier and less costly ways to gain additional ceiling height that don't involve ripping the entire roof off. Every once in a while though, there is that exceptional someone who will not be turned from their desire to go all out. Here's what happens.
