I moved to Durham in 1998 when I I left my home town of LaGrange, NC (#holla28551) to finish my last two years of high school at North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. If you don’t know much about NCSSM or have never heard of it, close insta right now and go to their website. Located in the old Watts Hospital, NCSSM is a PUBLIC school for 11th and 12th graders in North Carolina who excel academically. We opened in 1980 as a boarding school and now have over 9,000 alumni from our residential program. As technology advanced we have added an online program, an inter-video conferencing program and host a variety of different summer programs. I feel incredibly fortunate to have graduated from here and even more so to now work at NCSSM as the Development Director. We’re a public school but private donations from alumni, families, corporations and more help make sure we continue to be the most innovative high school in North Carolina.
