After a significant renovation four years ago that opened the floor plan and added much needed space, our clients decided it was time to bring the kitchen up to date by taking it back in time with a mid-mod look.

The existing kitchen/dining area was dominated by large original windows - lots of light but little wall space. New wood Marvin windows to match those used elsewhere in the original reno were installed and the kitchen footprint expanded to make room for a new wood stained island. Perimeter cabinets in SW Stardew provide a contrast to the original pine pickwick walls throughout the house, and are topped by neutral quartzite stone countertops to compliment the stone fireplace in the living area. Edge pulls and bold geometric light fixtures in natural brass juxtapose with the sleek angular lines in the custom range hood and slim frame cabinet doors to complete the mid century feel. The stainless appliances and sink provide the modern balance to the clients retro style, helping the new space blend seamlessly into this old cottage. (And be sure to scroll to the end . . .
