“Some go to church and think about fishing, others go fishing and think about God.” - Tony Blake.

Roxy - what is she thinking?
This is one of my favourite photographs, Roxy sitting on the landing at the top of the stairs.
Photograph taken with a manual focus Nikkor 35-105mm f3.5 film lens on Nikon D700 body.
Pose: K&S
People always assume this is a love song. It's not. It's a warning..
She can kill with a smile, she can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child but she's always a woman to me
She can lead you to love, she can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth but she'll never believe you
And she'll take what you give her as long as it's free
Yeah she steals like a thief but she's always a woman to me
Oh, she takes care of herself, she can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh, she never gives out and she never gives in
She just changes her mind
And she'll promise you more than the garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you and laugh while you're bleeding
But she brings out the best and the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself 'cause she's always a woman to me
Oh, she takes care of herself, She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh, and she never gives out and she never gives in
She just changes her mind
She is frequently kind and she's suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases, she's nobody's fool
And she can't be convicted, she's earned her degree
And the most she will do is throw shadows at you
But she's always a woman to me
"We don't need more to be thankful for, we just need to be more thankful."
Carlos Castaneda
I often find myself reframing my thoughts when facing a task, especially one as mundane as housework. Instead of filling the sink with warm sudsy water and thinking "I HAVE to do the dishes"...I change the thought to be "I am thankful I have dishes to wash." It works in all sorts of situations in life. Try it. You might be surprised that you are more thankful for your life than you knew!
My thanks to a former student who shared that thought with me. Teachers learn more from their students than perhaps the students learn from their teachers.
As the crowds line the streets in anticipation for the parade, the participants find their own ways to prepare for the celebration.

The University of Tasmania is 125 years old and has been celebrating by lighting up many of its buildings with red LED lights.
Taken with a 14mm wide angle lens on full frame, this building looks more massive than real life, and its ominous red presence reminds me of the computer in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy called 'Deep Thought'. It was 'a computer that was created by the pan-dimensional, hyper-intelligent species of beings' to find the answer to "life, the universe and everything".
After seven and a half million years of calculation Deep Thought proclaimed that the answer was in fact "42".
"Only the weak are cruel. Gentleness can only be expected from the strong."
Leo Buscaglia
One day I spotted glistening mushrooms popping up in-between green clover. I knew it was a moment to capture. Life is so fleeting and we need to support each other and love each blessing. That's what the mushrooms said.

"Has it ever struck you ... that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quickly you hardly catch it going?
It's really all memory ... except for each passing moment."
Neuroscientist/Nobel Prize winner, Eric Kandel
"The years go by. The time, it does fly. Every single second is a moment in time that passes. And it seems like nothing - but when you're looking back ... well, it amounts to everything."
Ray Bradbury

it was in this moment that Howard paused to contemplate on the meaning of life. There must be more than endless hours of flight, the ongoing search for a mate and avoiding humans, something deeper, a higher purpose to it all...
then he saw a week old French fry
