This is the first blossom on the Glaucium in my garden. I love the dark red flowers, especially when backlit by the sun. The flower only lasted one for day -- the next day the petals were lying on the ground.

Smoke from fires near Napa drifts across the San Francisco Bay and out onto the Pacific Ocean. Just before setting the sun turns an unusual shade of red. The photo is pretty close to what the sunset really looked like. (Seen from Immigrant Point overlook in the Presidio on May 2nd, 2013.)
