A fast growing large deciduous tree that is native to the south-central United States in Mississippi, Alabama and western Tennessee. This tree is often used in general landscape use as it is one of the most well-adapted oaks as it can tolerate wet soils and moderate drought and has very issues with disease and insect pests. In the Autumn as seen here it will produce yellow to orange to red attractive looking leaves.

Living in the Pacific Northwest where we have dense evergreen forests, it was nice to see the light, deciduous forest for a change.

Ortalis columbiana (Colombian Chacalaca / Guacharaca)
Endemic to Colombia, as its name would suggest, and the only chachalaca within its now relatively limited range in the central (Cauca and Magdalena) valleys of the country. It is found in both humid and deciduous forests, but the species’ range and population are both almost certainly declining, and it survives only in pockets.

The peach (Prunus persica) is a deciduous tree native to the region of Northwest China between the Tarim Basin and the north slopes of the Kunlun Mountains, where it was first domesticated and cultivated. It bears an edible juicy fruit called a peach or a nectarine.
The specific name persica refers to its widespread cultivation in Persia (modern-day Iran), from where it was transplanted to Europe. It belongs to the genus Prunus which includes the cherry, apricot, almond and plum, in the rose family. The peach is classified with the almond in the subgenus Amygdalus, distinguished from the other subgenera by the corrugated seed shell. Prunus persica grows up to 7 m tall and wide. However, when pruned properly, trees are usually 3–4 m tall and wide. The leaves are lanceolate, 7–16 cm long, 2–3 cm broad, pinnately veined. The flowers are produced in early spring before the leaves; they are solitary or paired, 2.5–3 cm diameter, pink, with five petals. 5148

Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like this Japanese Maple, one of my favourites, which I have been visiting regularly on my walks over the last few months. In late autumn, when I took this photo, it suddenly changed colour, going from green to rich velvety reds like this leaf, very quickly. All too soon it was ablaze with the last of its beautiful reds, oranges and golds.
The day I took this photo was a lovely and sunny autumnal day with bright blue skies, and was more spring like than autumn!
