The old house of Vasily Kalashnikov (please do not confuse with the creator of the weapon - Mikhail Kalashnikov) is located in the historical part of Uglich. Today, the building of the 18th century houses three expositions - the Glass Museum, a teahouse with a Russian stove and samovars, and a designer's office that tells about his life and inventions. Kalashnikov designed bulk barges for transporting kerosene, designed blowers and superheaters - devices for a steam engine - and developed an innovative model of a steam engine, for which he was awarded a medal at the All-Russian Industrial Exhibition in Moscow in 1882.
Architectural features of the Kalashnikov house
It is not known exactly when the house in which Kalashnikov was born was built. The building was already listed in the General Plan of Uglich in 1784, which provided for new street roads. Many old estates remained inside the quarters, and the Kalashnikov house was on the outer line of the new square - in front of the Epiphany Monastery.
The front part of the old two-story house was built of stone, while the rest were cut from wood. The facade was decorated in the same way as it was customary to decorate wooden houses: the windows were decorated with platbands with small cornices - sandriks. Tiles were inserted into the corner ledges of the house, which was a very original architectural solution for the 18th century. Since then, the house has changed little: only a high wooden roof was rebuilt here, making it flatter, and a major overhaul with restoration was carried out.
Museum collection
Today, there are three exhibition halls in the house: the Glass Museum, Vasily Kalashnikov's office and an exposition that tells about the Russian culture of tea drinking. The Museum of Glass contains exhibits of the 18th – 20th centuries - antique mirrors, stained glass windows, lamps, porcelain and glassware: glasses and decanters, damask and glasses. Kalashnikov's office was restored the way it was during the life of the designer. Here you can see antique furniture and icons, family photographs and fragments of manuscripts. Guests are told about the tradition of tea drinking in a separate room with a Russian stove. Its exposition includes samovars, teapots and porcelain tea sets.

Seen in a cabinet at my mum's: a little carafe / decanter with a stopper on top.
Impromptu image, but I was quick-witted enough to switch on the illumination of the cabinet - I love bubbly bokeh, you know !! :))
High ISO, handheld and noise ... so just for fun :D
HaPpY CrAzY Tuesday, everyone !

Romantic tipple, a still life project, the best bit was the bonus of drinking the port after the shoot :-)
Thanks for viewing my images, comments and feedback welcome.
Please read my profile before following.
I used manual focus to catch part of the etched and cut-glass detail on the side. This is an antique decanter/vase from Bremerhaven that my husband's mother inherited or brought with her.
Sorry I'm late! Natural backlight through this glass.
Thanks for looking!

Decanter and surrounding shops and restaurants just as darkness was falling on Bruntsfield. Quick snap with the phone camera, came out better than I expected for that.

At the V&A Museum. This striking decanter was made in Birmingham by George Bacchus & Sons, around 1850.
Snapped in a cabinet of decanters, jugs and vases, with a Sigma 30mm f1.4 wide open with pp!
A beautiful day for an early morning walk in Old San Juan. Near the Decanter Hotel, intersection of Calle de San Jose and Calle de Luna.

My grandmother's Sherry Decanter and Glasses Set in Sepia tones.
I believe this was a wedding present received circa 1922.
It is very fragile, fine etched glass that was very carefully looked after and is still in perfect condition.
My grandparents lived in the NSW 'bush' and moved around all over NSW until they moved to Sydney after WW2.
A true family treasure.

Had to take another photo as I hadn't followed the instructions for CLEAR glass. Decanter Krosno, Poland.
KROSNO opened their doors during 1923 in southern Poland, following generations of Polish glassblowers who had been perfecting their craft for more than 1000 years.

The next challenge will be "Anything glass in B&W". Glass can be a challenge to photograph, especially in black and white. It involves careful lighting to capture detail and definition. Anything made of clear glass can be used as your subject. No color photos please, only black and white.

This silver drinks set is not all it may appear to be at first glance. It is in fact a 1:12 miniature drinks set, made by artisan Clare Bell at the Clare Bell Brass Works in Maine, in the United States. Each goblet is only one centimetre in height and the decanter at the far end is two- and three-quarter centimetres with the stopper inserted.
The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday!” is “all in a row”.
When I heard the theme, I really wanted to do something using simple silver pieces reflecting off a mirrored surface. This miniature 1:12 artisan drinks set arrived at my home recently after several months in transit. I had almost given up hope that I would ever see it when it arrived. It seemed to be the perfect choice for the theme. I hope you agree.
Clare-Bell Brass Works is an American manufacturer of fine dollhouse miniatures. Each miniature is precision machined from solid brass or silver metal, carefully hand assembled, and in some cases gold plated for lasting beauty. They are located in Lovell, Maine.
