Every time I've seen a Night-heron it was in the daylight. That may be because I've never hiked in swamps at night : -)
Night-herons will hunt in the daytime or at night. This Yellow-crowned Night-heron was seen in the deep shadows at Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, in southwest Florida.
Short-eared Owl
It was a fantastic day for photographing the owls. There were four of them at the back of the Wildlife Drive putting on a show for everyone. Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Galloway, NJ.
The metallic-green Emerald damselfly can be seen from June to September around ponds, lakes, ditches and canals. Unlike other damselflies, it holds its wings half-open when perched.
The Emerald damselfly is a medium-sized damselfly that lives among lush vegetation around the edges of ponds, lakes, ditches and canals. When perched, Emerald damselflies have a habit of holding their wings half-open, rather than closed along the length of their body like other damselflies. The last species of damselfly to emerge in the UK each year, they are on the wing from the end of June to September.
Found locally - I took several shot and then he flew up to this branch where I caught the light and a clearer view. For once I got luck and a well lit clear view. Still have not caught this one in flight - the tree branches usually cause me to lose it.
....every time we cross here we say..."Shall we bother??".... but then we're always glad we stopped!! Outstanding weather for this spot!!....I feel an album coming on. Lochan nah Achlaise
I have been chasing this beautiful Barred Owl through the woods for a couple of weeks. Finally today while it was busy looking for prey I got an opportunity to get a few shots.
I still want to catch it in flight and will be working on it!

A beautiful Great Horned Owl on a winter's day keeping an eye out for some food or possibly just checking me out. A rare opportunity and will be hunting this guy for an in-flight capture!
When daylight wakes us, the black of night disappears, the beautiful colors and shades of the morning can bring a smile to our faces. As birds begin to chirp they search for their daily nourishment for themselves and their baby chicks. Spring is when change comes about and gives us plenty of enjoyment. Stacked the CPL and 9 Stop ND filter here together to get this daytime long exposure smoothing out the reflection and at the same time revealing what lies beneath the 'lake' surface.

Another one from my last stormchase. I caught this one not far from my home town. Nice storm clouds with rain streaks in the evening light and .....
..... a double lightning strike !
The contrast of the lightning bolts with the sky could be better, perhaps next time I will underexpose with an extra 2/3 of a stop.
Shot with an ultra wide angle (15mm) on full frame, so these lightning bolts were rather close, I guess 2 or 3 kilometers from my location.
The daytime shot from the Ponte Vecchio Bridge Italy. Very different to the nighttime shots I've also taken from this spot.
Came home to see this spectacular view of the moon against a blue sky as the clouds hovered close. Nothing special was done just tweeked in Lightroom a little to bring out some contrast and to crop the photo.
I love the way tulips come in different colours and shapes and how they still follow rhythms of opening and closing each day even when in a vase indoors.

This pretty little guy was spotted by my daughter whilst we were on a countryside walk at about 4.30pm. Neither of us had seen this one before or had any idea what it was. Frustratingly, I couldn't find it on the web as with it being so hairy we thought it was a daytime moth.
