Nice Family Sunny Early Summer Outing

From his Family

It was with great sadness that our Father passed away peacefully in April 2020 in Perth within three days of being administered with his family banned from visiting patients due to the awful strict Lockdown Covid Regulations

Go Wellington Designline Citybus Trolley No. 380 of June 2009, with Designline B43DW bodywork, snapped on Thursday, 16 March 2017, arriving at the Lambton Interchange near the Wellington Railway Station.

The trolleybus holds sentiments in that it was the first of the Designline production model trolleybuses that I got to ride on during a Foxton Probus dayouting in Wellington on Tuesday, 8 March 2011, and more recently joyriding on it on Tuesday, 14 March 2017, when deciding to ride it all the way to the Miramar terminus (but pulled the pin at Caledonia St. in Miramar in order to grab the next bus along at the bus stop across the road in order to get back to the station in time...that plan turning to custard), caused us to to miss the 1.44pm train that day in order to get back to Waikanae in time to catch the Route 290 Uzabus coach back to Levin.

Result of that was booking seats on the 3.30pm InterCity service coach to Wanganui to get back to Levin from Wellington Station.

Prior to my first ride on No. 380 in March 2011, I had previously only ridden on the three Designline prototype trolleybuses, Nos. 301, 302 and 303 of 2003/2005.

For Thelma, also from Foxton and who has so far accompanied us on all the Route 290 dayouter services from Levin to Waikanae, it was her first ever ride on a trolleybus.

A posting of the October 2008 Scania K340IB6 with Kiwi C53D bodywork laying over at the Platform 9 InterCity stop at the Wellington Railway Station on Tuesday, 14 March 2017, the coach which provided our transport back to Levin after missing the 1.44pm unit to Waikanae to connect with the Route 290 service to Levin from Waikanae Station, due to overdoing the joyriding on Go Wellington Designline trolleybus No. 380 of 2009 which has sentimental significance [that being the first of the Designline production model trolleybuses that I eventually got to ride on during a Foxton Probus dayouting in Wellington on Tuesday, 8 March 2011], and now even more so after the outing in it, 14/3/2017.

The coach was working the 3.30pm 6818 IC service to Wanganui that day and is currently a regular on this run.

To add to the saga, was about 40 minutes late arriving back in Levin due to traffic delays at Plimmerton due to a trailer unit with a digger on it which tipped over at the roundabout there on SH1.

OVERTURNED TRUCK CAUSING DELAYS ON SH1 AT PLIMMERTON

Tuesday, 14 March 2017

Press Release: New Zealand Police

Motorists are being warned to expect delays after a truck overturned on State Highway 1 at the Plimmerton roundabout.

The left hand lane of the two-lane roundabout is closed after the truck, which was transporting a digger, overturned at about 1.20pm.

Emergency services are at the scene but there are no reports of any injuries.

The left hand lane is expected to be closed for at least two hours while cranes are brought in to clear the vehicles.

Traffic is moving but motorists are advised to expect delays as commuter traffic builds.

Police would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience.

The trailer carrying the digger was reported as possibly leaking petrol on to the Plimmerton roundabout near Porirua.

Police said it appeared a digger had fallen off the back of a truck on State Highway 1 and the truck's trailer had tipped over.

The roundabout was down to one lane following reports that petrol was leaking.

FOOTNOTE; As things turned out the driver of the Uzabus coach back to Levin did wait around in Waikanae for the next train after we had not arrived back on the 1.44 from Wellington. But not taking the chance on him doing that we still opted for the safety of the 3.30pm InterCity service rather than arriving back in Waikanae on the next train and find the bus gone and be left stuck in Waikanae.

Go Wellington Designline Citybus Trolley No. 380 of June 2009, with Designline B43DW bodywork snapped at the Caledonia St. stop at Calabar Rd. (Metlink stop 7030) on the Route 2 service to Miramar, and captured moments after abandoning plans to ride it all the way to the Miramar terminus at back to the Lambton Interchange [for sentimental reasons No. 380 being the first of the Designline production model trolleybuses that I got to ride on during a Foxton Probus dayouting in Wellington on Tuesday, 8 March 2011], as time was running out and we had to get back to the Wellington Railway Station in time to catch the 1.44pm unit back to Waikanae to connect with the Route 290 service back to Levin.

We decided to pull the pin not long after leaving the Kilbirnie shopping centre and get out at the next stop which happened to be Stop 7030 in Caledonia St. at Calabar Rd. in Miramar. and catch the next bus along heading back into the city.

But that plan all turned to custard as no bus turned up until about 1.15pm at the stop across the road which is serviced by buses working 13 routes. That happened to be No. 342 returning from Seatoun with No. 380 following closely behind!!

Getting back to the Wellington Railway Station about 8 minutes after the 1.44pm unit had already left, we then went to Plan B which was to book on the first InterCity service from the Station to Levin which happened to be the 3.30pm IC service to Wanganui.

Coming around the corner from Calabar Rd. in this view is Go Wellington No. 342 on the Route 11 service to Seatoun, and what looks to be an ADL heading on to Calabar Rd. and may have been a bus we just missed from the bus stop across the road to maybe get back to the Wellington Railway Station in time to catch the train.
