Чемоданное настроение

I'm getting sick of being indoors all the time when it's light out. Winter is just beginning and I'm already looking forward to spring time. Work is crazy hectic right now and I seem to have really early call-times. 1.5 weeks left and we will have wrapped shooting for this issue. Thank god.

Day 21

21st January 2012

They really do make absolutely anything into Lego nowadays! One of Chap's 4th Birthday presents. Lego is a new obsession. Oh well, at least we're moving on from cars! Spongebob however is more difficult to get used to. Arrrrghhh.

Today the 20th Anniversary Edition of U2's Achtung Baby was released. Unarguably my favorite album of all time - this dark and dirty sonic masterpiece would forever shape the way I felt about music. As an 11 year-old it was an epiphany to learn that the band responsible for "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" had also written "Mysterious Ways." It seemed impossible with both songs feeling so vastly different. Nearly 20 years later, I still remember that moment in the car where the radio announcers confirmed what I didn't think possible. It was the moment I decided that U2 would be my favorite band. They had to be.

Later that day I would buy The Joshua Tree and a few weeks later, when I could save up enough money, I would buy Achtung Baby too. They were the first two albums that I would ever own. Over the next few years I would complete the U2 collection, buying every one of their albums - falling in love with the intricacies of each.

I spent many hours of my teenage years sitting on my bed with a good pair of headphones, letting their music envelop me. Their soundscapes were so rich and emotionally charged that it was so simple to lose myself in. Especially if lost was where I wanted to be. Their music was there for the highest highs and the lowest lows. It was a constant in my life. Nearly synonymous.

Over time, especially since college, that's all changed. I grew up. There have been other bands and other albums. U2 doesn't get a lot of airplay on my iPod these days. Their new albums haven't won me over much. The posters that once decorated my walls are stashed away somewhere undoubtedly collecting dust. The concert DVDs are packed in boxes.

But as I sit here on my bed typing this, a fresh new copy of Achtung Baby piping through my headphones, I wonder what, if anything, has truly changed?

Rust-colored Nicole heels from Nordstrom & Boiler Room, starring Giovanni Ribisi, Ben Afflect, Tom Everett Scott, Scott Caan, and every other young male actor working in the year 2000. Long live the floppy disk. (Also, contrary to this screen shot, Giovanni Ribisi was not playing a vampire in this movie.)

look into my crystal ball ... lol

The house was strangely quiet this afternoon. When I went into my son's room, I figured out why. Woo hoo, he took a nap today!!!! I had to record this moment in history. hahaha

Water fall in center of Lombok.

a year ago today, i reported cody for sexual abuse. it's amazing how much can happen in a year... i went from being small and insecure to being so strong and able to not let him control my life anymore.

the chest symbolizes everything i lost & how much i want it back, and my glowing figure represents the innocence that i lost. i keep picturing this small, glowing child lost in the world; a representation of the youth, the innocence that i lost that night.

Be Your Own Beloved Selfies - Day 21 - Beholding beauty.

"People often say that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves". *Salma Hayek*

I discovered this quote several weeks ago, and it stopped me in my tracks. I had intellectually known that beauty resides everywhere, and most especially inside my heart & soul, but it took this quote to help me really FEEL it. Being reminded frequently throughout my childhood and teen years that I was "too fat to ever get myself a husband", that "my style was ugly and weird" (and all sorts of other nonsense), I have always strongly doubted my worth and looked outside of myself for love. That is, until very recently. Now I know the truth, and I shall forevermore do my best to both behold myself with love, and as beautiful.

After the Sangria wore off, the duckies went looking for more alcohol. They thought they hit the jackpot when they found these bottles. Unfortunately for them, the bottles contained root beer. They have been sleeping soundly for two days. I will use this to my advantage to package them up and send them on their way to the next lucky Flickrite, 62uolegnaiam.

Good luck, and my God have mercy on your soul!

Don't let looks deceive you - this is as different to my yesterday's shot as night and day. By which I mean that yesterday was tiny tennis players at night and this is tiny tennis player at day. If you're really observant you can see they have changed gender too - these are women, yesterday they were men. Well, these women weren't men obviously - I'm sure they test for that. So, went to the Aus Open again today - great tennis and it was super hot. Victorian weather is such a mystery.

I'm not going to tennis tomorrow so I know I definitely won't have a hat trick of tiny tennis players. Also, I was doing well keeping up on comments on the road trip but have fallen behind in the last day - I'll be a better flickr mate again soon.

The child is sleeping I hope he doesn't drool all over himself and get wet and pee his pants, can you tell there wasn't much effort here?

Part of Inktober 2020 but not really since it doesn't involve drawing or even ink. Really all this is for is to challenge myself to build a small MOC everyday based on the prompts for Inktober 2020.

I really just couldn't be bothered with it today...really.

It's brutally cold in Chicago and I had given my car for servicing - was stuck at home with not much to take a photo of :)

Here's a lonely strawberry!

I don't even know. Yeah, I broke my arm playing soccer. For the second time in less than 3 years. Plus I've had broken knuckles. Being a goaltender means you are putting yourself out there in vulnerable positions, arms outstretched with people kicking and pushing around.

This time it's my right hand. My picture-taking hand. This is frustrating, and I don't know what it will mean for this project, but I'll just try to keep taking and posting pics. I know photographers who have to deal with a lot more restrictive physical situations (hi, Jay! <3), so.
