My favorite time for photography is the “Bird Mating and Dating” season. Feathers make a change in color/ texture and we are treated to fascinating fashion statement on the “Rookery Red Carpet”.
I took my new camera to the Saint Augustine Alligator Farm in hopes of finding activities in the natural rookery. No active nests, but a few birds were feeling “the call of nature” as they prepared for that perfect partner. Mating is the name of the game and dating will provoke many dancing displays. Great white egret males are the leader as they usually come first to the mating tree. Before he has chosen his mate for the season, he constructs the nest. He also spends time grooming long wispy plumes and perfecting a dance to attract the perfect female. Egrets are monogamous each nesting season.
Dating back from almost 7 years ago on a gorgeous day I can't remember having seen this anymore. Also from the time I had a Sony camera, that can't live up to my criteria anymore. So hoping for snow this year, but with temperatures exceeding 12 degrees it might take a while still. Merry Xmas to all the kind people willing to spend time on my pictures!
Dating, fishing or just relaxing and enjoying a beautiful day and magnificent views over the river. All of these activities, apparently incompatible, can be found here, at Jardim do Ginjal, a small but charming park already extensively described on my two previous shots in this series.

Date of accident: 18/12/05
Just after midnight, the UK flagged fishing vessel Sovereign grounded close to Cairnbulg Briggs light beacon, east of Fraserburgh. Sovereign was holed in several compartments and was unable to be salvaged: she was later declared a constructive total loss. There were no injuries and only minor pollution.
The Chief Inspector wrote to:
the owner and skipper of the vessel, reminding them of the need to:
1. improve bridge watchkeeping practices, especially in respect of lookout and basic navigational procedures;
2. ensure that watchkeepers are not distracted by using mobile phones in the wheel house.
the Northern Lighthouse Board,
advising that it considers the characteristics and intensity of Cairnbulg Briggs light beacon to ensure that it is fit for its intended purpose.
The Ocean Maid BA55 sank next to this wreck 0549 on 24 October 2022. It grounded on Cairnbulg Point to the east of Fraserburgh, Scotland while on passage for planned vessel maintenance and minor repairs. The four crew evacuated to a liferaft and were subsequently rescued by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
The legend of this fruit: The 'Crab Apple' got its name many many years ago. Infact it was shortly just after the wheel was invented sometime around my birth date. A farmer was sitting on a bale of hay when suddenly from out of the heavens a bright light caught his eye. He followed it to earth only to discover a 'Space Crab' perched on a tiny apple in his orchard. From that day to this the little apple is known as a 'Crab Apple' ..... or so the legend says :)

Drifting back into reality these are 'Crab Apple's', very small wild apple fruits, the largest apple is about 3/4 of an inch, beloved by Blackbirds especially and too sour for us humans to eat from the tree so is usually made into a jelly or a drink. Here they are on heavy textured paper illuminated from above and below using diffused LED lights.
