Something I came up with while experimenting with displaying large amounts of Twitter data. In this case all the Tweets about the TEDxWaterloo conference. Using speech bubble images generated live for the Twitter Wall I created for the event.
These are all the public Twitter messages sent during the event that mention the word tedxwaterloo. Each column in this display represents the messages from a 10 minute period.
Built using the very handy Google Maps Image Cutter created at University College London.
Laboratory animal stories are kept low key and rarely pierce through into mainstream media, which means the public are generally left in the dark about the number and types of animals affected, and for the majority of us, the treatments and products that are tested for our supposed benefit.

The Open Budget initiative is a pilot project supported by UNDP in Ukraine and Internews’ Center for Innovation and Learning to bring together civil servants, civil society workers, and journalists to figure out ways to better share municipal budget information with the public.

The number of drugs in shortage has slowly increased since 2006, with over 200 new drugs in shortage in both 2010 and 2011 - up from 70 new drug shortages in 2006. A big reason is US government price controls instituted after passage of the Medicare Modernization Act in 2005.

Shan is a senior data visualization engineer at Uber. She is a coder, a designer, and a data artist. Shan is the founding member of Uber’s data visualization team and creator of kepler.gl

Ryan has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He built the first half of his career in product development at Trek Bikes and Caterpillar, before joining as the first Solutions Engineer at Mapbox in 2016. Now he leads a team of 15 solutions engineers that help customers solve complex problems using location intelligence. Outside of work, Ryan is a is a lifelong cyclist and founder of the athletics design website Athletedataviz. This is his third time speaking at a Tableau User Group event.
Chris DeMartini, Visa
Chris DeMartini came to the Tableau community through his work in network graphing. He has focused on incorporating dynamic aspects to his visualizations as well as working with the Tableau JS API, often blogging about these techniques on DataBlick. Some of his past work includes the likes of jump plots, hive plots, and even his family tree.
