Human Language Technologies today are hugely impacting the way we use computers by allowing us to interact using natural language. The algorithms need to find patterns in the language and make inferences. This can only be done if they receive annotated training data that identify and indicate different elements of the language.
Volunteer Training for Data Collection and Management in the “Education Hubs” Project
This training, organized by the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) unit at AKF Syria, equips volunteers with the skills to collect and manage data for the “Education Hubs” project using the KoboCollect app. Emphasizing accurate data recording from beneficiaries—including teachers, facilitators, children, and students—the training also highlights the importance of effective communication in educational settings. Practical exercises, such as data entry simulations and role-playing, are included to reinforce learning. MERL’s approach to monitoring includes progress reporting, field visits, and feedback mechanisms, while evaluation follows OECD criteria and standardized tools to ensure quality. This activity, funded and implemented by AKF, aims to enhance volunteers’ abilities to gather high-quality data and foster positive relationships with stakeholders, ultimately supporting the ongoing optimization of project models through lessons learned.
