On the first day on our search for the next 60 million views we have this lovely Eason image of the heart of Galway city. Galway is such a picturesque and welcoming place and this area is the beating heart of the city itself. The Claddagh Ring is synonymous with the county and has been explored here in the past.
We were reminded today that we've visited this corner of William St and Eglinton St before - though perhaps not amongst the same crowds evident in this 2017 StreetView. The general consensus is that this image dates to perhaps the mid/late 1920s. Or even the early 1930s. At 1 in the afternoon. 'Dublin Time' :)

Diese Uhr in Galway in Westen Irlands wurde im Jahr 1750 über dem heute noch dort betriebenen Fotogeschäft „Galway Camera“ in der William Street installiert. Damals wurde in Irland und auf den britischen Inseln für jeden Ort die jeweilige, vom Sonnenstand abhängige Ortszeit verwendet, was mit zunehmender Mobilität der Menschen immer unpraktischer wurde. Deswegen wurde hier in Galway, einer der größten Städte Irlands, für diese neue Uhr als Referenzzeit und zum besseren Vergleich die Ortszeit von Dublin, also die „Dublin Time“ oder „Dublin Mean Time (DMT)“, angegeben, die wiederum etwa 25 Minuten von der Ortszeit in Greenwich bei London (Greenwich Mean Time [GMT]) abwich. Erst ab dem Jahr 1880 wurde für Irland festgelegt, dass die „Dublin Time“ nun für alle Orte in Irland gleichermaßen gilt. Mit einem weiteren, späteren Schritt wurde festgelegt, dass ab dem 1. Oktober 1916 in ganz Irland statt der „Dublin Time“ nur noch die „Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)“ gelte, wodurch seither Irland und die britischen Inseln alle die selbe Uhrzeit haben.
This clock in Galway in the west of Ireland was installed in 1750 above the Galway Camera Shop on William Street, which is still in business today. At that time, Ireland and the British Isles used local time for each location, which depended each on the position of the sun. However, this became increasingly impractical as people became more mobile. For this reason, here in Galway, one of Ireland's largest cities, the local time in Dublin, i.e. ‘Dublin Time’ or ‘Dublin Mean Time (DMT)’, was specified as the reference time for this new clock and for better comparison, which in turn differed by about 25 minutes from the local time in Greenwich near London (Greenwich Mean Time [GMT]). It was not until 1880 that it was decided that ‘Dublin Time’ would now apply equally to all locations in Ireland. In a further, later step, it was decided that from 1 October 1916, only Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) would apply throughout Ireland instead of Dublin Time, meaning that Ireland and the British Isles have all had the same time ever since.
