Elliott Heads visitors and residents are reminded that Dr Mays Island is now partially closed to protect nesting and migratory shorebirds.
The enforced closure period runs between September 1 and April 30 and covers areas of the beach island.
The sand island, also known as Rock Island, is located at the mouth of the Elliott River and is used by migratory birds for nesting and roosting.
The closure occurs every year to protect the rare shorebirds which visit from Siberia and Alaska.
Forty-two species of migratory shorebird visit our shores from September through to April each year to roost and feed.
These birds fly extraordinary distances between their breeding grounds in northern China, Siberia and Alaska to our shores along routes called flyways.

Bystanders received medical treatment with this schnapps syringe during the famous carnival parade in Mödling near Vienna.
Planted in 1990, it's taller than my 2-story house now and blooms its head off every year. Oh, and it scents the whole yard with cinnamon and musk.
"Dr. Mike" was formerly of the famous Astor Place Haircutters. He's pictured here with his wife. I'm not sure who the guy on his left is - I heard he is one of Dr. Mike's best customers.
Dr. Agon returns, insatiably power-hungry, horror all around.... Thereby his submissive helper Mr. J.E. Mine, eager to read his every wish from his evil sparkling eyes! Have fun!
