An inside look at the Fuze Model Shop at the Diamond Ordinance Fuze Laboratories. DOFL made significant contributions in areas such as printed circuits, casting resins, flow and temperature measurement, reserve power supplies, high-resolution radar, air navigation systems and nuclear effects studies. During the 1962 Army reorganization, DOFL was assigned directly to the U.S. Army Materiel Command as a corporate laboratory, and the next year, its name was officially changed to Harry Diamond Laboratories to reflect broadened, Army-wide missions. HDL was one of seven Army laboratories merged to form ARL in 1992.

This photo takes it back to the 1950s and 1960s with a special focus on the Diamond Ordnance Fuze Laboratory. Seen here is an electronics technician working in the DOFL’s Model Shop. DOFL made significant fuze contributions in areas such as printed circuits, casting resins, flow and temperature measurement, reserve power supplies, high-resolution radar, air navigation systems and nuclear effects studies.
